Has anyone tried planting mulitple mango trees in 1 hole?
« on: July 22, 2013, 09:32:35 PM »
reason why I am asking, I am quickly running out of space since my yard is small, but then I came across this video

Plant 3 Fruit Trees In 1 Hole

Has anyone tried this with mango trees? has it been successful?

I am thinking incorporating two dwarf trees and a large tree, still trying to determine if this is possible with mangos

How about multiple anything in one hole?
I've planted two avocados in the same mound and grouped papayas in sets of two or three in the same container.
I don't see why mangoes can't be grown together.
Of course, I'm still big on talk and short on results, but that could change.

Ask Harry, I think he has done this a few times. if I remember he said they are doing fine but need to plant two trees that grow alike or one will steal all the sun from the other and the smaller one will suffer and/or die off

I have done it with Maha Chanok seedlings.  Look here:

I'll try to do an update photo.  The thread I am referring you to is 2 years old. The trees are about a third larger than they were then.

No, I am unaware of any list.  Most mangoes could be planted together.  Just watch out for those at opposite ends of the vigor spectrum (e.g. Valencia Pride with a Pickering).  Most trees can be pruned and kept from shading out the other.

Yeah, i've done that too, planted 2 mango trees in one hole, was 2 Harumanis mangos. I posted a photo in a previous thread:

Like Harry already said, you don't want to plant dwarf and regular type mangos in same hole.
