This post was inspired by an old post of Ethan's: http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=992.0

The table is a general guide, because as Har pointed out in the previous post, some varieties work while others don't within the same species. I am not sure how I can expand this table to include cultivars unless I make a separate table per species.

i have atemoya on reticulata,

illama on reticulata

reticulata on cherimola

have done atemoya on pond apple

dioica on reticulata

cornifolia on atemoya

all of these worked well, but not sure about long term compatibility...they have lasted for over 1-2 yrs without any set backs, or detrimental anomalies.

I will try to think of more, but honestly, I don't like the table format.

I would rather see each species listed individually, with all of it's known compatible counterparts, including notes about each one if necessary.

I guess some dis-ambiguity is in order: I always get confused with common and the scientific names

Gary,
Annona cherimola onto Annona muricata works like a charm.  Please change it to a "yes".
I have an Annona cherimola grafted onto an Annona muricata that is growing like a weed. The tree was grafted a couple years ago, and is flowering as I type this post.

as an experienced grafter of Annonas (and tropical fruit trees in general), I don't believe a chart formatted like this will suffice.

it's too linear...the chart needs to be more 3 dimensional.

each species needs it's own write up (or section), with each of it's graft compatible counterparts having a write up as well.

Grafting compatibility is also about the level of compatibility and I suppose a yes is being over a threshold.I don't know how much of a problem delayed incompatability is in Annona. Pond apple is now a weed here but originally was used as rootstock for atemoya and even sugar apples before being rejected as a poor and non commercial option. My ilamas (thanks Sheehan) look pretty similar to sugar apples and I bet they are compatible.

ANON DE RIO (Annona glabra)
Use as rootstock to atemoya, guanabana (a.muricata) and mamon (Annona reticulata)

That is great to know, Berto! So this means that Muricata will work on cherimoya roots as well?  If so, I am definitely going to try that!

that grafted A. dioica on A. reticulata you made is growing like a weed now...over 6ft tall, and has a fruit set on it.

it's hard to tell what's going on with the fruit set....I have about 4 or 5 fruits set (between 3 trees...2 seedlings, one grafted).....and once they set, they seem to sit there...even though they're green...they barely fill out.

It's a total tease...

hoping the grafted tree you made will produce a fruit...it looks like the single fruit that set on it, is filling out more than the fruits that set on my seedling trees (from whence your scion came)

Adam,

Everything I grafted on those particular reticulata seeds took well and all have been vigorous. I need to get some more seeds of that type.

I have seen I have seen Annona diversifolia 'Guillermo' and Annona diversifolia 'Pajapita' grow and produce very well for some 20 years and more, grafted onto Annona glabra "North".

I have two Rollinia deliciosa (Annona mucosa) grafted onto Guanabanus montanus (Annona montana), that have been fruiting twice a year for 20 years.

Mountain soursop is a good root stock for rollinia?  I am going to have to order some seeds, I have  a nice sized rollinia I grew from seed, but always noted that rollinia don't seem to have a very vigorous root system

Does soursop graft onto cherimoya root stock? how about soursop onto  mountain soursop roots?

soursop and montana works very well they are close parients. but dont so with rollinia...rollinia works well qith rollinia.....soursop can be grafting on cherimoya like rootstock...cherimoya is te better rootstock in the family.

Thank you much for the info! :) I have a friend with a sweet soursop, she said very good quality, I am going to ask her to send me some scions, I have a lot of cherimoya trees to work with, I just didn't know if soursop would take to cherimyoa roots   :)

I like to see that graft...the only one I've heard who had any success with soursop onto cherimoya is Ethan. We've had many failures here.
