I have seen and removed many, many small snails from my citrus trees this year, but I have seen no damage in the area where they where removed from. Do some snails clean leaves? Can they be beneficial? Do we any snailologists on here? Lol

TFN when you see the snails up in your tree is it near dark. Normally snails never come out in the sun. I find them in my greenhouse and kill them with slug bait. I have also gone out at night with a flash light and pick them off.

Millet, I find them nearly anytime of day, but we haven't had a lot of sun this year. Most days are cloudy to partly cloudy, or just rainy. They are usually in the shade, though. I have them in my greenhouse also, but I find just as many outside.

I found small slugs on my grapefruit tree yesterday and noticed small holes in leaves.

Toads eat snails and slugs.

I have several toads in my orchard. A lot of red-throated anoles also. My biggest problem with leaf chewing comes from grasshoppers. My toads and lizards disappoint me. I have tried to watch and have not seen damage where I find the snails. (not slugs). I wonder if they are eating algae from the leaves, as it has been so wet. I also find them climbing my back door, that faces north...Weird...

Not sure but you may have the "decollate snail" they are smaller than the regular "garden snail" the decollate snail is good because it predates on other snails that cause more harm to your plants.

I googled decollate snails. It shows them with elongated shells, whereas these have the regular round shells. I don't know what they are, but I do not see them doing any damage to my plants...YET.
