Hi,I have two varieties, a green one from Brazilian seeds and a purple/mauve one from SE Asia seeds.I prefer the green one. They are sweeter and when at top ripeness, they are simply delicious with elusive exotic flavors that remind meof vanilla and/or cinnammon. The mauve ones are also good, but tend to be more watery. The flesh near the skin often gets a pink tinge which makesthe fruit very attractive. The only downside is that they are quite seedy.
Would I be better off with 2 atemoya trees, or 1 atemoya and 1 Big Red sugar apple? Do you have to hand-pollinate the Big Red?
Then 2 atemoyas and 1 sugar apple sounds about right!
I forgot about the rubber sugar apple! It's nice, with a uniquely gefner like texture. It would be interesting to cross something like big red, with the rubber sugar apple.I have both, so I will try this season.
