I have some plants that I grew from cuttings that I received from Edgar Valdivia who was the one who developed this variety of dragon fruit

Ok just give me a few days for the cuttings to dry out since they are freshly cut, so when they get to you they will be ready to plant

Don't be afraid to leave it to dry more, like up to a month. Tricia is thicker than most dragonfruits. I cured it for a while but it still rotted when I potted it up. Took several years to get it back to normal size again.

Dragonfruit. Are very tuff plant. I lost a few mature red varieties last year due to root rot in a container . I had to start all over again.

Yeah, cut off all the rotted parts and start the curing process again, but give it more time.

I wish I had know that . I cut down the whole DF and started over with cutting.

I always wonder if anyone has cut off a damaged trunk and inserted a tall pot to boost up the soil level. It would work but I never lost a rooted trunk yet. The green part rots but the core cane is the real trunk where the roots grow from. I don't have gophers here and my banana would make a tastier target.

The main stem on this one completely rotted away but I just left it there and it still kept growing

Yeah, leave it. It's the core that's actually the trunk. It's fine as long as the core cane is not damaged.

Yeah I pretty much just left it on it's own and now the plant is more than 7 feet tall growing on my Cherimoya tree

Dragonfruit are actually super hard to kill. I moved my entire collection of full grown dragonfruit plants(6ft tall, multiple branches on top), by pruning the top right back and then cutting them off at ground level, still attached to the post I grew them on. Transported them 450km in a box trailer, stood them up behind a shed for 3 months until I finished moving and then built a trellis system to attach the posts to. All are growing well now and at least half are flowering at the moment.
