Red ylang-ylang fake or really?
« on: August 28, 2019, 05:09:39 AM »
Hi guys, recently I often come across information about red ylang-ylang. Who knows this fake or really such a plant exists. If this is true, where can I buy seeds?

There are at least 2 different species called ylang ylang and thousands of otther annonaceae from wich somme might have red ,ylang ylang like flowers.
I am interested in somme anonaceae thats native to Russia or Mongolia on 45°N .Il have to look for the specie thogh and post the latin name later.
As for ylang ylang, why would you grow such plant in Russia ,when there are otther plants with similar flowers and scent that also make the best fruit,Cherimoya and sugar apples.

I am interested in growing any tropical and exotic species. And if I find something new that I have never seen in any collection in Russia, then I will definitely find it for myself.

Toptropicals had these for sale.It seems that its a cultivar of the regular ylang ylang wich means it might not grow true from seed.In that case you need grafted plants.
From seed it takes 5 years to flower.https://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/Desmos_red.htm
The russian annonaceae i found on GBIF was a mistake,a tree from Malaesia, brought to Russia then got into an american collection.

I found seeds on ebay, but I think that this is a Chinese fake.

In Russia, only PAW PAW  grows in open ground, but many grow other Annonaceae in containers at home or in a greenhouse.
