Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Garcinia macrophylla looking fruit
« on: February 14, 2021, 09:07:27 AM »
Mike
I think you are confused, remember, Raúl sent you a very special seed, which cannot bear fruit because your plant must be small yet...I have a couple of plants that I received from the same batch of your seed and they are still small, By God, look for that plant that you planted because it’s worth gold...... I send you link...

Sytanta Ho Chi Minh city would be the ideal climate for so many of the tropical fruits we look at on here. There are many princesses and mangosteen is not ready to give up the crown as queen I think.

You're right, Ho Chi Minh and its surrounding areas are suitable for many tropical fruits. And yes mangosteen will be the queen for a long time. Other Garcinias are actually unknown here. If they want to take the crown from mangosteen, they must be as highly-qualified as the giant G. macrophylla. That will take tens of year from cultivating to marketing to changing customer habit,...

Looks mouthwatering, is the big G. macrophylla originated from Ecuador or is it developed at the Botanical Ark?

Thank you for the info, what about humdity , How humide is your area? Has it fruited for you ?

Humidity of my area right now is very low, around 10%-25%. In the rain season it can reach 90% so P. Almirajo can comfortably thrive in a wide range of humidity although it will need enough heat.

Nice seedling. It is from the Choco region of Colombia so I don't think it is very cold hardy. On the contrary it withstands 30-37C in my area without issue.

Covid is spreading so posting service in many places are limited. Notice that the virus can live many days on the surface. It's better be patient these days.

Treat them as your crush:

+ prepare good medium to prevent mold: vermiculite 4-8mm, water regularly with diluted Hydrogen peroxide (google this to get the right mix)
+ sow 1-2cm deep
+ place in a shady and clear place
+ forget about her returning your love, be patient until she calls you back

May I ask what's the deference in taste between "Redondo" cultivar and other Capuassu vars?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Achachairu
« on: January 12, 2020, 01:58:17 AM »
The color is a lot lighter yellow than my achachairu, which are closer to orange. The shape on the photo is also different than my achachairu which are more elongated in shape. Unfortunately in Bolivia they use the common name of achachairu for almost ALL the species of Rheedias (now called garcinias). So it's possible it's a different species.

Maybe immature? Like people picking up durios when the fruits are immature/close to ripe for longer shelf life.

Hello, who know Jim west

Jim doesn't sell seeds to new customers anymore. Besides, sending seeds out of Ecuador is prohibited nowadays. It's nearly impossible.

Several Lecythis species are sold abundantly in Belem and Santarem. I think Oscar is correct.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Annona Fruit Identification
« on: July 20, 2019, 10:02:54 PM »
Looks like "Annona montana"

Could be, the pictures online do have a closer resemblance to the fruit I have. Whats throwing me off is the little spikes on most pictures, mines has smooth skin. Maybe removed for shipping?

I think so, or the spikes were all broken when the fruit was in transit.
