Campomanesia pheaea - Cambuci - how to germinate?
« on: March 24, 2016, 11:28:54 AM »
I'll be receiving seed of flying saucer fruit soon.  Since there is not much information on the web, I'll be grateful if someone could explain how to germinate these seeds.  Thank you.

plant at a very shallow depth, in soil or potting mix that is of acid pH.  Keep in bright indirect sunlight.

Growth is very slow at first, and plants can be difficult to establish.  Sensitive to high pH, and city water (Fluoride, Chloramine, etc)

You need to ensure that the trees had been cross-pollination because without pollination seeds will be no embryo and do not germinate.
The cambuci flowers are self incompatible, they produce fruits with a tree only, but without embryo.

Thanks for the information, nelesedulis.  I know this is a silly question, but is it possible to tell from the images whether these seeds have embryo or not?  Thank you.
