Question on Santa Rosa Plums.
« on: June 12, 2016, 09:02:50 PM »
Can you grow them from a cutting? If I rooted a cutting wouldn't it be pure S.R.P.?  Why would I need a root for grafting? Its never cold enough here to bother them.
Here's another red beauty today- sweet to the core.

I stuck the part of the stem that attaches the plum to the tree, with maybe 1 1/2" (yes that tiny bit) more of branch tip in water. I was looking at it today. Holding up. Why did I never think of growing a favorite stonefruit from a cutting? I've done that with some of the most exotic tropical's...never came to me to try Plums or apricots.
Well, lets see if it roots...then the real bragging starts.

Best of luck!  Let us know how it turns out.  This year was my first large crop of Santa Rosa Plums and they were awesome!
