Mango tipping site looks normal?

Tipped the CC a few weeks back. First time doing it. Site is black and crusty looking. Normal?
In the future should I try to do anything different? 45 degree angle perhaps?

Looks perfectly fine, but I tend to favor cutting it just below the end of a growth flush (ie, a couple of inches below where you've cut it). Cutting right above a growth flush causes too many sprouts.

Got it, Thanks! I will wait till all the shoots grow and probably only keep the strongest looking 3 or 4 and cut the rest off. Trying to aim for symmetry of new branches and keeping canopy open in the middle if that makes sense.

That's what I'm doing as well. It works as expected for my Nam Doc Mai. However, on the Mahachanok, the way you cut doesn't always put out 3-5 branches and let you choose which to keep. On the Mahachanok, some branch end only put out 1-2 where the cut point is, and some put out 5-6, a different behavior.

I second thought of Jeff, cutting below the previous flush node. I have done bothways, when cut above the node of previous flush, I have gotten multiple shoots and tree shape looks out of whack and balance. cutting below allows better control of shape for me.

[Future]

Cutting below the growth ring also makes for stronger branches. That growth ring weakens a branch. I didn’t know this until a few months ago.

I'm happy to see some more replies and everyone's thoughts. I was using the video below as a guide because it seemed to be a good method to me. I will experiment with cutting below growth rings as many of you have suggested. I'm sure most of you have seen the video...

So the new branches are doing well. Got about 7 of them growing total. Some from the growth ring and some from below at stem/leaf junction . How long should I wait to thin them out? Just looking to keep 3-4 of the strongest ones.
