Pot size for pineapple tops?
« on: September 30, 2018, 09:39:11 AM »
About 6 months ago we started our pineapple tops in 10" 2gal pots and they are doing very well. We are thinking we may need to step up the pot size. What is an adequate size pot to finish them out in?

Are there any benefits to growing in a larger container? larger fruit? more fruit? quicker time to maturity?

Mine are scattered between 3 and 7 gal pots. One is in a partially filled 15 gal. Think its time to downsize.

If feed they grow faster from side shoots which can get fruit within 1 year in South Florida the roots after done in 3Gal is where i would leave it and some that are better in 7 Gal but 1 gallon hasnt given me the size of fruit
but also depends on the variety of pineapple

It seems benefit would be fertility & water holding capacity. That would also point towards why they are usually grown in ground.

I find pineapples grow real well in suprisingly small pots. A 3 gallon can cold a fairly big plant!

Anything from 3 to 7 gallon pots is great for growing pineapple plants... anything bigger than that would be a waste of potting soil

the only downside to growing in a 3 gallon pot is you might have to water more Often
