Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mangifera rubropetala
« on: July 22, 2016, 08:41:22 PM »
I've asked a couple of members to no avail, has anyone ever heard of or seen these? Apparently extinct in the wild but still cultivated in borneo, sabah, sarawak and a few other places. The fruit are small but highly esteemed. The interesting thing is it can develop flowers on rainy days not needing a dry season. Could maybe be a reliable choice in some climates. Apparently the Hawaii botanical gardens had one.

« on: February 23, 2016, 06:10:11 PM »
Im curious about how true to type seedling jackfruit are, obviously if theres a bunch of different ones they are more likely to outcross, but if grown in isolation, do they come true to type?

I have just recieved some pouteria splendens seeds after much looking. They rattle in the shell but otherwise look good. I have had reasonable success germinating most pouterias but since I only have these three I'm interested in any tips.

Does anyone actually have this fruiting? A few forum members who thought they had it seem to believe they now have a pouteria torta variant, also its common name abiurana also brings up torta as well as bullata. Only Luc seems to have a tree but its not fruiting. Im curious how similar to abiu it is.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / horsfieldia australiana
« on: December 24, 2015, 06:29:15 AM »
This is one that has been on my want list for a while. Just recieved some seeds from an excellent guy in the northern territory. Ive not had much luck with myristica fragrans and wondered if anyone had tips for species of the myristiceae family. The seeds were collected 7 days ago and shipped direct to me but im not sure if theyre from the tree or picked up from the ground. so im hoping theyre fresh, any pointers would be great .

Tropical Fruit Discussion / brazilian tree grapes lookout 😎
« on: December 18, 2015, 12:31:45 AM »

Here is a new selection of nsw davidson plum by a guy who probably has a bigger cross section of all 3 species than anyone I know. Its these sort of people who will bring out the best aussie natives have to offer. This is what he said about it:
A new selection of Davidsonia jerseyana, still without a brand name but this one is a little gem having crisp, non-sour bite sized fruit that bursts in your mouth wanting you to try a second one. Its unique and originated from a 1999 wild collection and 16 years later 1 tree in a row of 100 has decided to fruit differently to the others. Usually D.jerseyana fruit are twice this size and very sour !!
They feel like Thompson seedless green grapes and open the same, with a crisp almost snap like texture.
