Hi Roblack,

I have been trying to find this for months now ...  Have been told that the larger fruit is not as tasty as the smaller fruit is. I am hoping to talk some kind grower out of some seeds next season, if you beat me to it, please share the info with me, and I will do the same.

I got mine here in the spring: https://wellspringgardens.com/products/sherbet-berry-grewia-asiatica?_pos=1&_sid=1242b5655&_ss=r

Thanks Nate. Has yours fruited yet? If so, how are the fruit and how long did it take?

Will let you know when I track it down DD!

Sellers on eBay have it, but pretty small. I think Wellspring is on there.

No fruit yet. It was tiny when it came in May. It's not supposed to be a great fruit.

Thanks Nate!

I really like blueberries. Haven't had luck growing them here in 10b. Killed mine when placed in-ground, couldn't handle the alkalinity is my guess.

Might try one more time, and keep in pots.

...and had hoped phalsa might be a good alternative to blueberries. Not expecting a mind blowing taste, just pleasant.

Hey Rob
I found them at my local Wal mart.
I got 2 for like $16 in one gallon pots and they grew fast and the fruit was terrible.
They had an astringent taste no matter how ripe. I dug them up
Blue Berries need super low PH, there's a couple farms near me and they add acid
to their water. I settled with a bunch of different mulberries. There are several that
stay small and mangeable

hahaha, completely agree with that statement on Phalsa! I've had a couple of these in the ground for years, they're useless, not even a pretty bush... I finally killed them last week.

Hi again, All

members of the Texas Rare Fruit Growers have said there are 2 different cultivars, the smaller fruiting one being the better tasting. I am still going to keep on the hunt .... and will report back with results

Have heard such legends, perhaps myths, and even if true, who knows how much better.

If ye finds gold, please let us know DD.

This talks about two types, with the smaller-fruited one being better: https://hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/proceedings1999/v4-348.html

I’ve had one in the ground for about six years. First crop this year and plant is Finally growing aggressively but the fruit don’t ripen entirely. They eventually  drop as hard yellow BBs.

Hi Shane,
Looks like your bush is in partial shade ?  maybe that is why your fruit is not ripening ?  The folks I have spoken with here in Texas have it as a landscaping plant in full sun.
