We usually but 'manilla' but the case in asian supermarkets when theyre in season... I have multiple seeds growing here in norcal. They overwintered fairly well and should start pushing growth here soon..

I'm looking to add a Guava or two to my collection and had a few questions:
Do they do OK in pots (If I like the variety it would go in the ground within a couple of years)
I would prefer a sweet variety - and something good for juice (POG)

secondly, where would I source these in northern california? Does anyone have any good varieties for sale?

Potatoes come up in my compost every year.
and all over my garden. It's a good problem to have.

If you want to go that large just have some soil delivered. Usually a three yard minimum (In my area). Cheaper than bags though.

Finally picked up a fig yesterday and I reread this topic.
I ended up getting a Violet de Bordeaux, and I recently acquired some cuttings from Achedomestica / Mike for Celeste.

I believe my wifes grandfather has some tiger stripe figs the wife and I enjoyed, I may grab a cutting from him this week and give that a try too.

I'm thinking about multigrafting this tree later this year. It has three main branches and I'd be leaving a good portion of it as pomelo.
I wanted to know what kind of citrus grafts are compatible with a pomelo root stock?

I've recently tasted some mineola tangelos, and a blood orange and really enjoyed the taste. Would these be good matches for the pomelo? What about finger limes? My main issue with this tree is it just produces WAY too much for my wife and I, and we have a small lot (under 1/4 acre) and I'd love more variety. (and to practice grafting!)

Could you post some pictures? I am stuck with 20 different varieties of mangoes on turpentine rootstock before I read about it, most of mine were on 15/25 gallons and flowering currently. I am planning to grow ataulfo seedlings in deep nursery bags and graft as a replacements.

You may have some failures but many of your trees will likely do ok.  I would advise you to use mexican Kent rootstocks.  You can get cases of them in summer for cheap.  And they are much more vigorous than ataulfo seeds.  The ataulfo seeds tend to get long and lanky and not short and stout.  They like to flop over and seem to die back easier over winter.  At least grow both types and hedge your bets. 

For what its worth, I am going to do some more trees with Simon this summer on the rootstock stockpile we have and then thats probably it.  Because getting seedlings through the winter here and then the success rate on grafts makes it not really worth the effort even at 100$ a tree.  Theres a reason no one is growing grafted mango trees in CA.  You need a greenhouse to really keep them happy and keep from flowering.  And lack of heat units and light units over winter even in San Diego is really hard on these plants.  So by the time I grow out 100 trees maybe I have 30 good ones that make it to be grafted and good takes in a state people want to purchase.  Any slow seeds, lanky seeds, sick seeds etc I toss.  Then the rest have to stay good for 6+ months of cold weather, then have to graft and have good takes.  Major PITA.

Hmm, I think we can get kent here. Maybe I'll try some of those for rootstalk to.. I have some nam dac mai, manilla, tommy atkins plants right now that took a bit of a beating but made it through some cold weather (They're inside now)

I get alot of free pots from a local nursery, but they don't ever have any tree pots.
I'll try calling around as I'm surrounded by orchards (stone fruits)

34 this morning, no frost and my diesel truck was very happy

It was purchased from a 3rd party through walmart. I tried to cancel the order immediately and was unable to as their customer service was literally nonexistant. Emailed the seller with no response.
Ideally if it would work that would be best. I think I paid 15$ for it, probably not worth the hassle of returning.
