Cherimoyas as rootstock
« on: February 11, 2018, 01:11:51 AM »
Hi,
At what age can cherimoyas seedlings be used as rootstock?
I'm going to graft atemoyas on them.
Thanks

It’s ready as long as the rootstock is big enough to match the scion. I do mine when they’re pencil size.

Ive had the most success with 3/8" and larger or 1-2 years old. The bigger the better though.

I had success with grafting sugar apple onto 6 months old cherimoya root stock. I prefer 1/2" root stock.

I am trying this year with a couple of seedlings just less than a year old that are less than pencil thickness (I have other seedlings growing that I am saving until they get bigger before grating on).  They are thicker than the scion I grafted on them at the base of the plant though and that was good enough for me.

I don't know if it the correct size but I will find out soon enough :)

How old and what is the diameter of root stock?  Do you have your scions yet and how do they compare?

I just planted cherimoya seeds for root stock yesterday...and no scions.
