Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Flamboyan tree (Delonix Regia)
« on: August 01, 2021, 09:14:12 PM »
I'm looking to purchase a Flamboyant tree- I'm in Claremont California 91711. I have tried to grow from seeds- last year I was able to get some seedlings but all died- since, I have tried with no success. The seeds get moldy. Any suggestions or information?

That's encouraging. I imagine it is at least that age or older?

I'm not giving up. Then again, I have an acre, multiple producing trees, and patience. If I were in a zero-lot home with room for maybe only one or two trees, I'd be discouraged about waiting 8-9 years for good fruit production though. That's all.

No lie, the fruit is excellent. Maybe next year is my year...

I'd add Rapoza - slightly fibrous near the stone, mediocre taste. Beautiful fruit though.
And an unpopular opinion - Coconut Cream - IF you have limited space. Top 10 taste, mid-tier looks, but cellar dweller production. Also floppy growth habit..

I've heard you may have to wait a while for production to pick up. Well, I am on year 8 and I have harvested a total of a dozen or so fruit in the last three years. Your mileage may vary though...

Never met Harry personally, and I hope I am wrong, but a quick Google search led me to this obituary.
Did he pass? Can someone confirm? I cold have sworn I have seen him post within the past couple years. Maybe this is the wrong man.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mutant Lemon Zest fruit?
« on: June 04, 2021, 12:42:01 PM »
So this fell from my tree this morning. Was so high up in the canopy I didn't notice it until it dropped. So far I'm afraid to open it in case a hatchling xenomorph is still forming inside. I'll wait for backup when my wife gets home.

Anyone seen this happen before? Siamese twin mango fruit?

Normal Lemon Zest on the right, my siamese twin needing a bi-bopsy on the left

Cleaning up some of my unwanted/neglected plants for the summer ROUND ONE! The only plants here that have fruited before are the mulberry and the pitangatuba. Most need to be potted up. Gallon size is noted but look at the tape measure image for a better representation of plant size. Tape measure was from soil level of the pot for all pictures except for the last one with the Grumichama. Most are in heavy duty plastic pots.
For Pickup only - I am Southwest Ranches and will be available all day Sunday and Monday.

Shangri-La Mulberry (7-gallon) $40 SOLD

Pitangatuba (15 gallon) flowering now, but produces more fruit with a partner plant. Plant is about 7 years old. $80 SOLD

G. Intermedia (Lemon drop Mangosteen 3-5 gallon) needs to be potted up and looks a bit rough since it was face down in the shade for a few months $20 SOLD

G. Humilis (achacha 1 gallon) small x2 $10 ea. SOLD

Lucs Garcinia 1 - (5 gallon) new flush starting. Plant is 4 years old $60 SOLD

Lucs Garcinia 2 - (3 gallon) Plant is 4 years old $50 SOLD

Ice Cream Bean (7-10 gallon) seedling of Inga Feuillei $30 SOLD

Cac Mango (grafted 3 gallon, flushing heavy and needs to be potted up) $25 SOLD

Grumichama (1 gallon) seeds were from yellow fruit but this eugenia often reverts back to black. Won't know until it fruits. almost 2 feet wide but not very tall $20

Not pictured but also for sale in 1 gallon pots
Peanut Butter Plant Seedling (about 14 inches tall) $10
Ice Cream Bean seedling (about 18 inches tall) $10

If you California guys are in a struggle to meet the 200 minimum, consider working out a deal with us South Florida Guys. I'm willing to purchase 2 or 3 trees to tag on your California order now with a promise of shipment later in the summer once the trees have recovered from the initial shipping stress - maybe a moth or two. I could tag on an extra $20-25 per tree to make up for shipping/potting/baby sitting.

I don't know, just an idea. I imagine there are more than a few South Florida guys here who would be cool with a deal like that.
Thoughts?

Just realized my location was vague.
I'm in Southwest Ranches, FL but will travel anywhere in South Eastern FL to pickup.

Thank you Adam, sent them a message.

Think I found a source for small trees, hoping I can find something larger.

I tried messaging and was told that I need to be growing commercial to have any access to the trees.

What source do you have for the small trees? I'm looking to find one as well.

Might order some trees from overseas, and would need to sell a few if so. Hoping can find other options, but let me know if you would be interested in buying a tree. Would help my decision if there is interest, especially locally here in SoFL.

Rob:
I'd be interested in 2-3 as well depending on final cost. I'm in Broward.

Related but not:
Does anyone know which abiu varieties are at Fruit and Spice Park? I have two 7 year old seedlings from a fruit I ate there and they just started flowering last summer. Curious to know the parentage. Rumor has it that one was a Grey the other was a Z-4??

I know you already purchased your tree, but for those looking for a deal, I have found this shipper in HI to be the best bang for your buck. https://www.store.hawaiiantropicalplants.com/Garcinia-humilis-4x4x10-tree-pot-1629.htm

$49 for a 3.5ft tree. Healthy, well-packaged and fast shipping. Shipping was about $25, I forget. Cheaper if you buy more than one. I got 2 for about $125, shipped.
Just FYI

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Rollinia - To Prune or Not to Prune

Tropical Bay Area - you just replied to a nine year old thread. That must be the greatest thread resurrection I've ever seen! LOL!
(for the record I don't prune my rollinas much either)

Kinda not thinking  cold damage. Not sure what that is, but I've had my share of garcinias take their hits from our cold and it never looked like that.

On a not related note, Brandon is your Luc's flowering again? Same one that flowered this summer is having a second bloom right now. Our trees were synchronized in the summer and just curious if this second bloom was too.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Abiu - what am I doing wrong ?
« on: October 30, 2020, 11:22:14 PM »
So I’ve got two remaining trees that flowered for the first time this year. These seedlings are from fruit I ate from the trees in Fruit and Spice Park years ago. Someone told me the F&SP has two trees: one Grey and the other Z4?? Can anyone confirm this? Anyone know the variety of trees there?
