Mangosteen taproot help!
« on: June 19, 2018, 08:57:18 PM »
So today I chose to plant a purple mangosteen tree I had in my nursery. It’s a little over 2yes old, 1.5ft tall and looked super healthy. Anyways, while removing it from the bag for transplant I heard a pop...it was the tap root(it seems to have a divided into two one was bent and the other tore). I freaked and ran to find the first thing that I believed could help ensure it’s survival, in this case it was some rooting hormone that I got but never used. I applied it to the tap root and the side roots that were poking out; it must have lost around 3inches of the tap root. I later watered it carefully. Has this happened to anyone else??? Did your one survive?  Here are some pictures.

Tap root is over rated. Don't worry.

I've repotted mangosteen 3 or 4 times now, with no problems. Just keep it watered (don't let it totally dry out) and limit the direct sunshine and it should be fine.
