ID please ?
« on: February 21, 2017, 09:54:39 PM »
So ive been finding a few plants in the garden
i have no idea what they are.
Very possible they are seeds i planted 1 or 2 or 3 years ago
seedling soil was composted, and they ended up in the garden.

anyway...

any ideas / suggestions are welcome...

first plant...
i initially thought this was West Indian Elm ?
but, i have no idea now...
THere is a 2nd seedling that is identical, but smaller...

----------------------

2nd plant

------------------------

3rd plant

------------------------

4th planjt

this is not the same plant as #3
but it looks like the same family ... ?

-------------------------

5th and last plant

its looks a little like Loquat, but, i dont think it is.
usually, loquat leaves get darker with age, even in seedlings.

ive grown Kiwi from seed. leaves look very different

1. Muntingia calabura

my first thought
i actually have a muntingia i had growing from a cutting
about the same size, and it looks very close,
but, the muntingia doesnt have a fuzzy stem

the leaves look very close, but, no cigar.

i was also thinking maybe Zizphus Jujube
i know its not Jujube, but, i am growing other Ziziphus as well.
Ziziphus mauritiana and spinosa
still dont think so, but not 100% positive its not.

I grew some M calabara last year from seed and the stem took a long time to look like a trunk.
I bought the seeds off ebay from a guy in Thailand and even when they were pushing 2 feet  I wasn't certain.
I asked 2 people and both weren't sure. It reminded me of a weed.  One year later and they are 6 foot and
producing.

only 6ft ?  HaHa
they grow like weeds.
i cut mine back 5 times trying to keep it under 12ft

1st plant...
this is the one i think is not Muntingia

this is the one i think IS Muntingia
more color, leaves are rounder

--------------------------

this is the new growth from the mature tree...
(died back during freeze, this is the only new growth)

seems like the leaves and stems have a very similar zig-zag pattern
and leaves are saw-tooth on both
There are some yellow + reds on the new growth of the older tree
and also on the 2nd seedling

they are very similar, im not sure
but, i dont think the first plant is Muntingia

before the freeze
