Tropical Fruit Discussion / Finally planted one of my 7gal mangos
« on: June 24, 2019, 08:00:32 AM »

Finally replaced the Fruit Punch that didn’t make it with a 7 gal Duncan that’s been wanting to be planted. May not be as popular with the forum but I enjoy the flavor and it gets me closer to having every tree in the collection established in the ground! So 1 down, 5 more to go!!!

Tropical Vegetables and Other Edibles / Sweet potato 🍠 harvest
« on: January 27, 2019, 05:11:51 PM »
  pumpkin yam variety

Harvested another 20lbs of sweet potatoes on Friday the 25. It’s funny, I thought sweet potatoes only do well when it’s hot outside but not the varieties I seemed to harvest this time of year compared to the other 20lbs of sweet potatoes grown during the hotter part of the year. The Omani Pink produced the most, & I also produced some pumpkin yams, Jersey Yellow, a Myanmar Purple, & a nice bit of Molokai purple.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Backpack sprayer 50% off
« on: July 09, 2018, 02:36:21 PM »
So long story short, I was Harbor Freight and seen that they had backpack sprayers for $30 down from $60. I couldn’t pass it up as I was recommended it by Har a few months prior but I didn’t want to pay $60 for a sprayer.. turn into an early Birthday present for me but hopefully this post will help out someone else 😁

Rapoza scion seems to have taken and already flushed.. is it too early to cut off the branch I side cleft grafted onto? Going to try and use the piece I cut off as more budwood for grafting as it looks like the perfect stage to take for grafting.. right?

« on: August 08, 2017, 03:02:50 PM »

Tried going through going-bananas.com but they didn't have the varieties- Dwarf Namwah, Blue Java/Ice Cream, & Praying Hands.. anyone growing them & have pups? (Looked on Craigslist with no luck) any help is appreciated  ;D😁

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango tree (possible Haden seedling?)
« on: June 26, 2017, 11:59:53 PM »
So I'm always on the lookout for Mango trees and sugarcane & I happened to find a mango tree on a vacant lot just North of Northlake blvd on A1A & Richard Ave. Found some drops that looked great. Very strong flavor & then sweetness & some fiber like a Haden. Brought the fruit to show Har & after talking for a bit, we came to the conclusion of a Haden Seedling being the most likely mango. Hoping to get a ripe one before it drops for a real flavor evaluation!!

You never know what you can find if you just look sometimes...  ::) :D

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Please Help ID this Banana
« on: May 29, 2017, 09:58:29 PM »
So I was hoping someone with expertise on banana cultivars could help ID this variety. Neighbor was giving away a few plants & I got 1 of the 2 bananas she was giving away. But they weren't labeled & all she could tell me is that it's either Dwarf Cavendish or Dwarf Orinoco. Thank You!!!  :)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Too late to use this for grafting?
« on: April 26, 2017, 09:10:27 AM »
So I have yet to graft my first tree & have been doing research and was also told to use bud wood that has not started pushing out new growth. Will u tell me if it's possible or to late to use this top piece since a new flush has already started pushing out?

22
So I would like to give a major thank you & shoutout to the forum member who went out of their way to help me obtain these new cultivars for my garden!!  ;D (Shall remain anonymous out of respect for the individual) Again just very much appreciative for what you did & now very excited to also share here in the forum!!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Must Have Top tier Mango Variety?
« on: February 01, 2017, 08:49:45 PM »
What variety do you consider a top tier mango? I tried going back several pages & seeing how everyone liked these varieties & now wonder if any will do well against disease & fungus out west in Loxahatchee?? The varieties are- Fruit Punch, Juicy Peach, Peach Cobbler, Sunrise, & Venus. Or do you have a recommendations for growing other varieties out in Lox? Looking for something that'll thrive, realiable, & taste like candy or super sweet? Also looking for Kathy, OE, & Pheonix where is this possible or than ZHPP?

24

Also what potting soil is best for containers?

Have real bad scale infestation & I think I shocked it with salt fertilizer...?
