I am interested in hearing about the glutinous rice lychee.
lychee in glutinous rice and coconut milk/cream is heaven!
Maybe this type will make the pudding even better ;D

Hi Harry,

About the kuini mango, it has very strong aroma like durian and taste sourish sweet. We didn't pluck them from tree but let them fell naturally. We kept them for two days and would see them start fermenting. Not too much, they now sourish sweet with a bit of alcohol. just fabulous. Too bad, the tree was chopped down as it grew too big, uprooting part of the car poach.

Hi Rob & Oscar,

Yeah, the glutinous rice lychee is "Nor  Mai Chee" in Cantonese. It is slightly smaller than a golf ball, very sweet, juicy and with a tiny seed.  It usually sold in late June in Hong Kong. Will post a picture of it later.

1) purple mangosteen
2) yellow dragon fruit
3) atemoya/cherimoya/rollinia.
4) white pineapple
5) apple banana.

The list could be a lot more accurate but I literally have about 20-30 tropical a planted that I've never tried.   Only time will tell.
With 3 acres of prime real estate for growing tropicals... why not create my own garden of eden?? Work in progress

No Mai Chee, or more often spelled No Mai Tze, is one we never get to taste here.  :'( It needs a lot of cold to set fruit. I have trees, they grow fine but never flowers in our tropical climate.  :'(  I think same is true for Florida. Maybe in chilly California it could be made to fruit? Has anyone in California been succesful and tasted it? It's one of the favored lychees in China.

You like Valencia orange better than Washington navel ?
or a red navel ?
i have room for 2-3 more trees, and already have a blood orange, mandarin, Myers lemon,
but i want a good tasting orange, that hopefully ripens later than the others.
My mandarin has fruit from October to March.
i think Valencia and Washington Navel both ripen late dont they ?

My top 5 has top be

Mango
papaya
watermelon (Louisiana)
Mulberry
guava (mexican cream)

and i have a ground-cherry that has a very tasty fruit - a pineapple overtone.
 - has to be very ripe though.
and hoping to taste a very ripe Surinam cherry one day from my yard
to go into the top 5 :)

Nice list I see you appreciate the jaboticabas!

we have similar tastes!

Just bumped across this thread since it got bumped, and decided to revamp my list LOL Thanks to this forum and its members, I have been opened to a new world where my palate is the limit. My original list
1)Lemon meringue mango
2)Carrie Mango
3)Cogshall Mango
4)Sugar apple
5)probably another variety of mango LOL

As of today
1)Mango
2)Rollinia
3)Jaboticaba (and it could easily be number 2)
4)Sugar apple
5) Loquat (maybe mulberry)

But more importantly, thanks to all for making me spend lots of money lol  Have tasted A LOT of new fruits this year, hope to try more as the summer season comes.

Inga edulis (the true Inga edulis)
Passiflora edulis
Lychee
Banana (maqueno, sweetheart, namwa of other delicious variety)
Cherimoya (Wayne's Dream cherimoya is my current favorite)

Last week, PPK mango would have been on my top 5, but now I am dealing with mango sap allergy. That time of year again.

Yes, No Mai Tze fruits in California. Exotica in Vista has several large trees that they use for air layers. They say the fruit is the best out of the three varieties they grow but production is not good. I don't know if it doesn't produce much fruit or it doesn't fruit every year. It also, at least last year, fruits later then Maritius and Brewster.

My signature doesn't qualify as a bash. It's not slander if it's true, Adam,  and it does not constitute untruth any more than if I were to say that the color scheme on this site consists of green, white and black, because this is simply a fact. For example, it is true that Jaboticaba is not your favorite fruit, it is true that you produce them commercially, and it is also true that nobody in this thread named Jaboticaba as their favorite fruit.

Not one person.

Literally, not one person on a forum made up of rare fruit enthusiasts named jaboticaba as their favorite fruit. Imagine then, if you will, how little non-rare fruit enthusiasts will think of it.

You say that 4 people named it in their top 5? Well, kudos for picking those out from the other 13 pages of people who didn't. Although it is quite funny that you'd actually be driven to do that. My favorite part of this is that you actually included yourself in that tally. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel, huh?Hahahaha!

I do take your meaning though, and yes--it is a fact I am probably enjoying a little too much. I'm not going to say I don't enjoy it.  I do; Immensely. Coercing you into your current humiliating and painstaking  state of  begging, pleading and thread-sifting in a desperate attempt to garner support for a product you sell, yet  clearly have no faith in inasmuch as it is only your third favorite fruit, is possibly my greatest achievement on this forum. What a judo flip. What can I say--I'm a talented guy. I actually don't think you like them very much at all, but no doubt enjoy how easy they are to propagate and how much fruit they produce, and how easily they will fruit.. Nice cash cow. Well, they would be if anyone wanted to eat them, but apparently very few people do. Don't take it up with me. Take it up with the respondents. All 96% of them.

Sorry saff. Pick a better horse next time!

I think that, for fruit lovers, it's very difficult to do a top5 list

The fruits I eat most are apples and bananas, because they are easy to eat and to find in the market, but I really love a lot of fruits, and a good feijoa could be first on my list: but I didnt included it! I just forgot, but they are super tasty here... and for sure: a Mango could be first too! and I didnt included it! or any good Eugenia or a strawberry guava too, chirimoya!!, etc.

And I would also produce them comercially: feijoa, strawberry guava, etc., because they are super good fruits

I tend to believe that the last rare fruit I tried it's my favourite fruit if it was very good, for instance, jaboticaba

chirimoya, mango, jaboticaba, lychee, jackfruit, uvaia, etc., are way too good not to be in a top 5, but you are missing a lot of good fruits too

I must say feijoa is one of the best fruits I have tried too! but my girlfriend will hate me forever and never eat them again because we were both eating them and we both loved them so much but after a few days only she noticed after eating  many and making a delicious icecream with it and banana that there were tinie tiny worms we were probably eating and I had assured here I couldn't see any worms lol.
I didnt mind so much long as those worms dont make me sick but she sure minded!

Look at this New Zealand grown feijoa, its a golden goose sold by a company called incredible edibles:

Its so freaking huge! have you seen any other cultivators that size?
I wonder if the taste is as good.

hero member only has one little yellow square?

What happened?

Keep up the good work!  Promoting positive vibes amongst the rare fruit community!

Btw, for a guy who sells jaboticaba commercially, I sure haven't sold much...my grove was just planted this year, and not a single tree has even flowered yet!

You're on fire!! And you're leaving the Brazilian forest as charcoal, and pasture land for raising cattle!

Nobody is going to want to eat this fruit by the time your finished!

I won't be able to stay in business!!

Please stop!

Evilfruit,

Muscadine is a good fruit, but not quite the same.

They lack a certain creaminess that the jaboticabas have.

Also, when eating a cambuca or cabeluda, there is absolutely no comparison to a grape of any sort!

These (myrciaria/plinia) fruits are amazing, and the only reason they are not listed in the top 5 more often, is simply that people have never had a chance to try them!
