I now carry plants with my nursery that are a self fruitful female clone. It's likely the same clone that One Green World carries. I will also have seeds available in July when the fruit is in season.

Which is your nursery? Link?

My question is why don't the get eradicated if it is a noxious plant? Is there some benefit?

Unknown numbers of species and ecosystems rely on many "dangerous" plants. Many "toxic" plants have yielded pharmaceutical drugs (Chondrdendron tomentosum) and chemotherapeutic compounds (Catharanthus roseus) due to their bioactive components or that of their endophytes (seems to be the case with Taxus brevifolia). Less than 1 % of all plant species have been studied thoroughly for their potential medicinal benefits alone. Yet roughly 25% of medications in our local pharmacy contain active plant compounds.

"We should preserve every scrap of biodiversity as priceless while we learn to use it and come to understand what it means to humanity. "

- E. O. Wilson

I say let it grow.   ;)

Also,

Their clonal variety is supposedly self fertile.

Kind regards,

Weird fruit explorer (youtube) did a thing on this and had links to at least one farm selling them.

Sent a PM with my updated list.

I'm really look for good size sections because I hopefully want to propagate my own. I also may need somethign on the thicker side as Ill be using em as rootstock for thicker cacti.

The thickest sized ones I have found were Pereskia grandiflora...they also have an upright growth pattern. The least vine like when they get large. Not sure about rate of growth, but they may better support grafts. I heard pereskiopsis is better for speed of graft growth, but I haven't read anything about that.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone growing Sideroxylon spp.
« on: November 20, 2021, 07:17:00 AM »
I am interested in learning new strategies for germinating Sideroxylon species and any other facts about their cultivation and use. Particularly Sideroxylon grandiflorum and well as any North or South American species with edible fruit.

Can just use an app on the smartphone to translate the text to english by snapshot.

dude, I gotta get that app...what's it called?

I just caught this message. Try Google Translator it has built in OCR translate.

Absolutely! I use this all the time to translate research papers and other documents. I highly recommend it, but there is a limit to how many pages you can translate at once and sometimes text bleeds into the charts and photographs...but it's great to use as a reference along with the original text.

Yes, let's not wish it too cold here. My ultra tropical plants could use a mild La Niņa winter.

You should have postponed your flight for a day or two in order to check out the Fruit and Spice Park as well as Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. The fruit stand "Robert is Here" located near-ish to Miami may have them occasionally.

63
I also could not get the website to work

64
Seeds came promptly and in excellent condition with some of each species germinating en route! As usual I am very happy with my purchase.

What do you grow?

69
Looking to buy or trade for live plants of Posoqueria latifolia & Gnetum gnemon.

Please PM if anyone would be willing to trade or sell me one or two of each.

70
Absolutely. There wasn't a lot of information out there when i first started researching them. Germination and the initial seedling phase are the biggest hurdles. Seeds also lose viability fairly quickly so fresh is best. Mature trees are virtually pest free.

71
About a year and a half to 2 years old now. Seeds are very small and they take a while to grow initially. The mature trees are outside here year round in 9b while the seedlings and immature trees stay in one of the greenhouses over winter.

72
This species and I have a terrible relationship. I have been able to keep them alive for up to 3 years maximum, but it always ends in tragedy. Would love to hear that someone had a successful attempt.
