honestly if you are after fruit quality, I recommend getting seeds from a tree that is known to be a superior type....(some seedlings are just bland and mealy)...even better would be to get scion from a good yellow grumixama! 

Mike at Treesnmore has an orange one..i wanna graft from his tree if he still has it...i just haven't made time to graft grumixama this year....and hadn't had time to visit Treesnmore (i need to do that ASAP)

i tried to propagate my variegated grumixama, but all my grafts failed!

I have successfully grafted E. itaguahiensis onto E. brasiliensis (grumixama), but i sold that plant to a forum member...i wonder how it's doing?

Adam, What sort of light/shade do they thrive in when young? Mine is still quite small though it has doubled in size (from 2" to 4"  ).  I have it in mostly shade (not deep shade) since it was rare, I only have one, and I had to twist your arm to get it.

When my biggest ones were smaller I had them in full sun and they didn't like it much. Put them in 75% shade and they greened up nicely. Grow so slowly

I'm near the area of origin of E. Itaguahiensis, some 300 km from the coast of Rio de Janeiro, where this species is native.
Mine are in full sun, without irrigation, without treatment, only weeding and fertilizing with NPK.
Produced 3 years, I do not know if they grow in the shade.
I forgot one detail, I planted the trees in the place where we had a coffee plantation for over 50 years.
A lot of organic matter, much humus, most high potassium in the soil.

I have a dwarf grumixama in a pot of 40 x 30cm. It flowered for the first time last year, and gave me just a bunch of fruits.
I did an experience in march of this year:

I put the chopped peel of 5 bananas (rich in potassium) in 1.5 liters of water and boiled. Waited for the temperature decrease and filtered the liquid with a net to take off the shell.
Later, I watered the plants. After three sucessive waterings (two weeks), new buds and flowers appeared. The same happened to Dovyalis.
Other trees not bloomed, but surely had a better growth. Unfortunately, I don´t took pictures before watering to show you for comparison.

That sounds pretty interesting cassio, might give that a try aswell. Mine are about 3yr old maybe, and around a foot and half tall. Pots are around 25-30 x 30cm.

It worths the try.
The better is that you won´t have cost doing this.

cassio, thanks for the idea!  I had some flowers push out on my potted grumichamma and then the damn wind just blew them all off!
