Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fertilizer
« on: February 27, 2019, 05:01:00 PM »
IF you use soluble fertiliser, if acquirable, you  cannot go past Rustica Plus a Dutch compound fertiliser that is top shelf. Comparable to but better results than Nitrophoska Special (also very good)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Parka speciosa
« on: August 20, 2013, 05:11:37 PM »
Parka spcommonly known as 'Petai' Patay' 'Stink Bean' is one of the few bitter foods many humans relish. Invarably any bitter food we enoy is excellent for health.

Why i am writing tho is because for every rule there is an exception. The variant on this is 'Where there is will, there is a loophole'.  i have wanted to try growng Parkia snce 1986 but could never secure what i thought was required: mature seed. Parkia is a 'bean' harvested green. The seed are full size but bright green and pliable 'bendy'. I therefore assumed like any seed, especially a bean type, in this immature state it would not germinate and I needed to score a hard coated fully mature seed.

Just days before leavng malaysia i did a google and came across a reference that made me go what the heck and so i brought in some fresh green 'soft' pliable seed. Lo and behold they have germinated with night tempertures as low as 9 and daytime maximum22-24 = another surprise.

What was interestng was once planted and watered the seed went firm and lost its 'bendy' nature

So know Parkia seed are readily avalable for mport from marketplaces thruout indonesia, malaysia, S. Tha.

This is more a query than a statement. I have ye to witness or hereof a consistent seedling line of black re: a true race. F1-F2-F3

I had a black that was grown from a good quality red. That shrub has thrown too many to count seedlings none of which or maybe one was black.  Over these years there have been >hundreds of fruiting unifloras. I have no more black.

So fair dinkum does anyone ave first hand knowledge of black E. uniflora as a race?

I will be in Malaysia and South thailand 9where no tourists have been for years. I figure I got more chance of injury from a dead tree or chain sawing than a bomb.) Anyway I 'work' for rates I would nener do in Asutralia. I do lots of walking and have no resistance to collecting cleaning shipping seed. To those who do not know I have handled thousands of seed species and have shipped many incl 1,000 durian and 1,000 mangosteen seed back in 1988. I ran a seed business for decades..... now basically retired

Anyay the general deal is 1.75- 2 kg mixed seed for $100pre-deposited. Of course any unused funds returned. If intersted contact me and if you have specific requetss do detail e.g. onl fruit no ornamentals or just durian . I also do packaged veggie seeds of malaysia etxthat i can throw in
