Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Name game

Poncyrus trifoliata x mandarin = citrandarin
Ichangensis x mandarin = ichandarin
Poncyrus trifoliata x citrus aurantium = citradia
Poncyrus trifoliata x pomelo = citrumelo
So, ichangensis x citrus aurantium = ? ( “Iradia”, ichantium”, “ichadia”?)

Doesn't really belong here and I'm sorry if I missed it but is there a reason you always spell Poncirus Poncyrus?

I made a jelly/jam only using the poncirus juice and diluted it a bit with orange juice and it turned out great!

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Parentage of a hybrid?

There is also a phenomenon that the hybrid often inherits more traits from its mother. Therefore, it does matter which way the cross is made but sometimes one way can be much more difficult than the other or impossible.

I will certainly follow this hybrid's development with great interest! Keep us updated.

Well done, Ilya. It will be interesting to see if the fruit quality changes (improves) over time.

I'd still like to know their diameter and I will check some fruit here for comparison. We see late spring freezes too but so far, the Poncirus have not been affected.

I just found a 1/4 dollar it is the same size as a 1 Euro coin.

We use neither USD nor Euro, that doesn't help much ;). I prefer Sylvain's suggestion.

How large are they? I can't tell from the picture.

Tada Nishiki fruit in Europe
https://web.archive.org/web/20160703172020/http://www.nielsrodin.com/blog/2014/12/02/19-Tadanishiki-yuzu-sans-p%c3%a9pin.aspx

someone in France with a seedless Yuzu
http://www.forum-agrumes.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=460&hilit=tada&start=50
Yes but no one is selling plants of it...  :-[

The French somehow are not too eager to share their rare citrus. Either I get a 'no' or no answer at all. Of course, not all are like that but If I had the seedless yuzu I would be sharing it all over Europe - the more the merrier.

Is Mukaku yuzu the same as tada nishiki?

It seems to be different Mukaku yuzu is a yuzu with a genetic abnormality making it seedless.
Tada nishiki is a hybrid of yuzu with seedless small fruits.
Could you please provide a link
I read many times elsewhere that Tada nishiki is a large fruited seedless Yuzu and  assumed that it is just a variety of Mukaku
Yes, that's what I thought – hence my question.

Florian.  P. trifoliata does OK in Nebraska, zone 5.  I don't know if those are in sheltered locations or anything else about them.

Thanks for the info, Walt. Where I live, temperatures rarely drop below -10/-12C. I was not sure the -20 or even -30C one can read on some pages were really true.

I have a small plant that only just flowered for the first time.
Various accounts concerning hardiness differ greatly, I've read between -9 and -18C...

Yes.

Zone 6a sounds like the extreme limit for Poncirus. Having mature wood would certainly help its survival. Anyway it should be interesting to see if it is as hardy as they say.

Out of the 60 or so fruits I picked from my little tree about 5 had these injuries. Some were only 'leaking' but one had its seed come out. I have never seen this. Any ideas?

Could also be less cold-tolerant than citrumelo since african shaddock is a pomelo. But who knows until it is tested!

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: Where to buy citrus online (EUROPE)

I can recommend ADAVO, located in Czech Republic. They ship to Europe.

Me too! Great plants!  ;)
And a very nice contact – unlike others who don't even answer.

Switzerland – Eisenhut – http://eisenhut.ch/pflanzenmenue/citrus should be added for the Swiss since most of the above nurseries do not ship to countries outside the EU or if so, only with prohibitively high shipping rates.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Maypop (Passiflora incarnata) Thread
« on: October 01, 2018, 06:53:46 AM »
Yes, these were my first fruits and no, I only have one plant but with various vines. There appear to be some (partially) self-fertile strains. Check out the cultivar known among the French as "Loryane" for example (I am yet to find seeds of this one).

The seeds/pulp from the fruits on the ground were yellowish but the thing is that I thought the taste was a bit off.. like they were overripe. That's why I picked one that was still on the vine. And as I said, many were hollow.

I am excited nonetheless. Passion fruit and Switzerland aren't two words that usually go toghether.

« on: September 30, 2018, 04:03:53 PM »
My maypop has started dropping its fruit. The fruit on the ground had alread passed maturity. To my disappointment, many were completely hollow. But also the ones that contain pulp are not completely filled with pulp/seeds.

This is a fruit I picked from the vine. The taste was pleasant, tart and sweet.

Would planting an additional plant improve fruit set and quality?
