Title: Tanglefoot Residue?
Post by: Empoweredandfree on October 11, 2018, 12:58:23 PM
I has this papaya shipped to me. I notice this clear residue area on it. It has a chemical smell. Could this be tanglefoot residue? Perhaps a disease? I tried wiping it off with vinegar but no luck..

Leave it alone for a few days, see if it has changed. I’d say it’s tanglefoot. No need to worry

I've never been able to get Tanglefoot off of anything. Always just had to rub dirt on it to make it less sticky...

Wonderful! Another reason to grow everything from seeds yourself. Nursery plants are just exposed to too many chemicals for my liking.

I have had it for a week and just noticed it today.

The picture is not focused on the site so tough to see. But, Tanglefoot is usually not used directly on a plant or tree. It needs a backing to not damage the bark. My tanglefoot is not clear, it has a brown tint to it. Also, I've never seen it used on a plant so small.
