carcarlo,

Go to the MD oriental market 1106 E Fowler Ave, Tampa, FL 33612, They should have partial cuts. Otherwise, try Fresh Market or wholefoods.

Does anyone have any experience germinating Diploglottis campbellii (Small Leaf Tamarind)? They appear to be nut like with a loose interior embryo. Unsure if I should shell it before attempting  germination.

Hey Oscar, any fruit holding this year/did it bounce back from the sulfur dioxide?

dang 185 MPH!!!

If I was forced to live in areas where we get hurricanes like this, I would build it out of structural CMU/Concrete only with 10 feet raised foundation as well. even then windows could blow up under such pressure.
I have always wondered why in the US many (the majority?) houses are built with wood or light materials even though you have many natural risks (hurricanes, tornadoes). In my country, even with the low revenues/habitant all the houses are built with concrete (and we don't have extreme climatic events like yours). Is it cost? or is there other advantages of light buildings?

Actually, all houses built post hurricane Andrew in the mid 90's up have strict structural requirements .

Adam, forgot to tell you, the last of the Marolo you gave me bit the big one the other day.

I still a Pouteria torta though, a little yellow, but growing

I didn't realize A. crassiflora was a Cerrado species as well. That makes me sad. I'll probably submit myself to the curse trying to grow one of those. Any luck with the aluminum additions on any other species?

So what can you wise Cerrado Masochists tell me about E. calycina in florida? I got one from Adam this last sunday. A seedling from Miguel's 'Nelita' I believe. I'd like to grow her to fruition. Should I be restricting the amount of rain it gets? It's likely going to stay potted for a few years. I definitely do not want to kill it. Advice?  Warnings? Enigmatic fortunes?

It wouldn't have been too hard to use a sharpie and write the varieties. What good is a sample without ID?
Completely agree. Minimum effort to throw a few tags to call attention to variety. There's a hell of a premium on those bananas too.

Any particular blend?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fertilizing annonas
« on: May 22, 2017, 01:24:40 PM »
I'm starting to build a nice collection of annonas and I'm interested in any advice of good fertilizer blends, frequency, and best times to fertilize. I ran a few searches in here but haven't found much. I haven't hurt anything yet but I've just been using a very light dose of 10-10-10.

Any insight into different species preferences appreciated as well. I've got a few sugar apples, Rollinia's, soursop, atemoya, custard apple, and Guanabana de Monte. I want to treat these babies right.

I'd love to see more of your greenhouse. Maybe a tour video? You've got such an impressive Eugenia collection after all.

I'm pretty sure he will be at the http://www.mrfc.org/p/fruit-tree-sale.html fruit sale this weekend, so if you can make it out there you will likely get a glimpse of the man himself and also be able to buy some fruit trees.
The lazarus effect?  8)

His sales will rise again after this weekend :P

The downside to that weed block is that you will block any rain that isn't heavy enough to flow under that plastic. Do you have irrigation set up? I was assuming you don't perhaps erroneously.

The R. emarginata has the most wonderfully fragrant flowers!  They smell like white chocolate, banana pudding!  I can smell them 8 ft away from the plant.

The flowers get a slight purple tinge to them when they're really fragrant...it's hard to see in the photo, but I tried to get a pic of the color change.

Also, I think I see some fruits setting!!!

Hows your tree?

Does air layering work for Illama? My neighbor has a tree I'm hand pollinating right now and I'm entertaining the notion of getting my own. I dont have any root stock right now or I would go that way. I do have a young seedling as well so if it doesnt take its not the end of the world. I just dont want to harm the tree unnecessarily.

First off, love your videos. My GF and I watch them regularly on Sundays

. As for legally trying coco de mer, I recall in a documentary that fruit grown on private land is not managed and is often sold to tourists  (at premium). I cant remember the video but I believe it was a BBC documentary about seeds. May have even had Attenborough.

Quite a rare fruit also here in New Caledonia but pretty good taste, similar to a very tasty melon of Cavaillon I would say. We have two trees, one is fruiting a lot but average size fruits, the other one less fruits but huge ones that weight around the kilogram each.
Both trees are about 20 years old now and they are from seeds brought back from Perou. I will try to graft that specie this year onto last year seedlings. Any tips/info about grafting that specie are welcome.

here is a pic of the trees with some fruits.

Here is small selection of fruits I have picked yesterday in our "special" forest…lol

What inga species is that?
