I'm going to see if I can find our video camera & try to record this.  I'll let you know how I make out.

I would love to see this as well, since I have several African fruit and nut trees in my greenhouse!  Just tried to talk hubby into a Hawaiian Christmas, but no luck...

Please ask about a junglesop taste report and see if they have anything to they would like to share about it. It is such an enigma from all of my internet research. I would also be very thankful for a video link of this.

OK, V., I'll check with Paul.  According to their book: "Most fruits are sweet and sour at the same time a good flavor all its own.  Some trees have very good fruit, while others are very sour".  Kind of makes you want to be sure your seeds are coming from a good tree.

I'll also check on whether it is dioecious or not -- there seems to be controversy on this with many here in the States claiming that they are not.  I keep hearing stories of someone having one large tree that has never fruited.  From their book: "It is believed that there are male and female trees..."

Wish I could go, but airfare to Hilo is as expensive as going mainland!

Yeah, interisland airfares are getting obscene.  I just got a note about Hawaiian having a pre-black Friday sale though (claims interisland fares starting at $69), might be worth checking out.

Frustrating that it seems people from other continents have easier access to seeds of plants from the continent I live in! :o

Stuart - Paul coming to speak does not equal easy seed access.  I don't believe he can bring any with him & neither he nor Roy are located anywhere near a post office to send stuff.  Probably doesn't make you feel any better ... this stuff isn't easy for anyone to get.  ForestHouse in Cameroon was the best bet for seeds from this area but I got a note recently that they are suspending sales (hopefully temporarily) to sort out shipping problems.

Yes that makes sense my mistake! If the postal system in the rest of Africa is anything like S.A I suppose I can understand the difficulty.
Hopefully with more interest brought on by talks of this kind we see availability in the future. The talk looks to be really interesting!

Not just quality of postal system but distance.  Paul mentioned Roy is now over 500 km from a post office & he is over 1000 so zipping to the post office to mail seeds isn't feasible.

Went fine. Very interesting slide presentation. I think Hifarm recorded it on video? The presentation is being repeated by Paul Noren in Kona on Monday. I guess on that day Roy Danforth will also be there? Roy was not at Hilo.

Unfortunately, something got screwed up with the camera & I only got a few seconds recorded.  I have asked the Kona guys to try to record it, let's hope they do better.

Roy will not be in Kona, he is currently at a project in South Africa.  I sent Ken Love a description of the work Roy & Paul have been doing & somehow Ken interpreted that as both coming to speak and sent that out in the promo for the Kona talk.

This was excellent. Really great hard to find information. What an incredible orchard. Very encouraging information about the Junglesop as well.

Whoever filmed and edited this did a wonderful job. High quality and great editing. Was that you HIfarm?

Thank you thank you thank you. I will definitely rewatch this again soon.

Nope, can't take credit for the editing, Josh.  The Kona guys filmed it, I managed to screw up the taping in Hilo somehow.  I think it may have been the Kona president's son who did the editing.

This should be a good reference resource for forum members on central African fruits.
