New Graft Tool And Test Video! Updated
« on: May 27, 2019, 08:46:52 PM »
Hello Members ,

So I decided to try out this tool for my multi grafted project tree .
Another member has experienced great results with this tool , works well I think .

I prepared the sweet tart scion and I used some advice from Simon and other forum member that used black tape and a cloth pin to secure the Graft Union .

Wish me luck folks ! ..

Ed

Thanks for sharing. I bought one of these a few months ago but haven't really tried it out yet. It looks encouraging.

Interesting video.  How do you sharpen the tool and how many cuts before the blade gets dull?

Hello Members ,

Just to update you on my Mango Graft Video , so after 3 weeks there was no fusion .
I think I might of harvested the scion to early , I just waited to the stumps fell off the prepared scion without any bud action going on .

Today I grafted another scion onto the same tree with the same tool , this time I waited till the buds swelled up , I will report in 2 weeks or so .

Thanks Ed

The video never showed the tree side cut done, so does a person have to change the adustment on the tool somehow to do a female cut?

No just turn the tool around for the female cut , I didn’t have anyone to hold the camera , easy tool to use !

The only time you remove anything is to swap out the blades .

from my understanding there might not be enough surface exposed for the union when I do mango grafts I try to get about 3inches on each side others can chime in.....that's why most reviews only suggest these tools for stone fruits.....there is a tool that you can do mangos but they sell for like 800 bucks

I did 2 more grafts using this tool if it doesn’t work for m3 , I’ll keep practicing with manual grafts .

Thanks Ed .

1” union works for mango grafting but of course quality of the scion and rootstock matter also.

IMO manual grafting is the way to go. It’s allows you to graft under so many different scenarios so you will need to practice it anyway

Either way I love to experiment with different methods ..
I still think the tool works if done right as hawk did ,

Same here, I want to learn and be good at grafting with tools and manual methods. Sometimes because of number of good branches available, I want to be certain that graft has a good chance of taking.

Amazon decribed this tool being able to handle the smallest diameter scion at 1/5 of an inch i think thats the tools biggest weakness at least for me sometimes i graft small stuff  as small as 1/8 inch but i would like to buy this tool and try it for the pencil size and bigger scions.

I like to Cuts and Hawk have been getting good results from it , it didn’t work for me , but I Belive it was due to my inexperienced in grafting , if the bud wood was at its right stage , I Belive it would of taken .

Don’t give up my n this tool as of yet!, I will Udate on 2 additional Grafts using this s tool, I modified the way you secure the scion to the Rootstock / tree .

Will show pics in a few days I don’t want to jump the gun 😊, the 1st Failed Graft was most likely my fault , I realized what went wrong .

Be back 8n a few days with pics ..

This tool is the exact same one as the one generally called the Omega grafting tool which has been discussed here a long while back. It's just disguised in a different form. It now comes with 3 different forms, all using the same blades and cuts.
They don't work with soft woods as they crush instead of slicing the scion.

The only tool that I found to work so far is the real deal Scionon one.

...

And apple, plum, cherry.
For mango, atemoya, cherimoya, look elsewhere.
