well, certainly with most chem ferts
they are known to lower counts of beneficial microbes
especially higher-order ones, like earthworms.
"organic" is a term that can be used to mean several things.
and there are absolutely some companies who just want to get on the train
and use the word "organic", because they know it will sell.
companies who actually care about their product
can produce good products that actually increase (beneficial) life in the soil.
plain fish emulsion works well for me, i get mine as a liquid
but dry organics can help too.
But really... worms and other critters who help break down leaves
(and other organic matter) are really what you want.
its hard to improve on nature.
