Hi Maryoto! My seeds are already sprouting. When they arrive i whash them and soaked them for 24h. Then i involve them in whet paper... they sprout really fast! And santol seeds too!
That's good news Luis.
I just hope they grow healthy! How many years they take to fruit?  ;D

Tropical Fruit Discussion / How to speed up kepel seed germination

Kepel seeds actually not difficult to germinate .
The skin of the seed Kepel is hard and thick , that's why Kepel seeds require a longer time to germinate , usually takes several months to germinate .

To speed germination , the seeds need to be scarification .
You can do by sanding Kepel seeds in the part of the buds will come out .
No need to sanding too deep , approximately 2 mm only .
The parts that need to sanding is indicated on the images by the symbol x .
With this scarification, water will be more easily absorbed into the seeds, and speed up the germination of the seeds.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Durio grandiflorus

The local name of durio grandiflorus is Durian Munjit.
This species considered as a variation of Boschia grandiflora Mast.
This durian species are very rare so it is very difficult to find the information on the internet.
I've never even seen this durian species before.
Yes indeed, that is how I found the pictures. More corectly, I found it by using a different version of the name "munyit". Still, these are the only pictures availible on the net. :-)
Yes, probably because this Durio is very rare even in Borneo.
I would look for information and possible picture if i go to Borneo in the middle of april.
Hope i can find it.
Awesome! Let us know if you found anything please! :-)
Okey,my friend

Sure,send me PM.

Kepel tolerates shade here pretty well, kind of like salak.  The new leaf flush is impressive with pinks and reds predominating.
Peter
That's good peter,Kepel is able to adapt well.

Maryoto in  rainy places there can 2 good crops and in dry places just one. The big trees in the park that I know well have a light crop in December and then again in March which is the start and end of the rainy season. These trees can have just a few fruit at times between when rain out of season causes some flowering. If it is too dry the flowers don't set fruit. Two years ago the 2 trees looked just like yours with their main rainy season crop being heavy. They have not had a crop that big since then. I should go back as they would be getting ripe now.
Well,we can only hope the next kepel fruiting season will be better.

617
There are some near Port Douglas where rain is only 1700mm/yr and they never get watered. At Ingham trees handle 6c in winter. They do alright with rainy season excess water and in the dry season  maybe the roots do need to get down to the water table. Considering they are Javanese the trees do alright in my area which is more monsoonal.
I must admit 2 in my yard grew fast and fruited quickly and I chopped them down. The fruit are alright.
In here Kepel fruiting 2 times in one year.
In the dry season fruit production decreases, but its fruit abundant in the rainy season.
What about the Kepel tree in your place,Mike? Are also bear fruit 2 times a year?

durianlover, were I am in Boca Raton, the answer is yes.  Since my house in Boca Raton sit on an ancient coquina bed, if I dont water it, its growth slow down only one flushing a year. All my seven seedlings from a foot to 10 feet grow & get multiple flushing when water three times a week.  Mike T mention awhile back he seen giant  mature tree in park thriving without irrigation.  i think once my tree pierce the water table at ten feet i can rest easier, now if I can only convince my HOA to allow TNT use, I can fract the coral bed & all my trees root will hit the water table must faster than now.  My property in the Fruity Acres, its sandy loam so the water table is only five feet on an ancient seabed, I only water it once a week during juvenile phase, even At five feet now, I have stop watering since its doing fine on its own during dry season.  My big concern now is how will my kepel handle slightly wet feet during our Hurricane month?
Agree with you, it needs to water the plants during the dry season in order to quickly grow.

619
Very nice! Award wining photos. Is this tree water sensitive, needs irrigation when mature?
Well, these plants need watering when the fruit starts to flower so can produce much fruit.
But without watering the plant is still able to bear fruit, but the fruit is not too much.

620
What is the coldest it get where these Kepel grow Maryoto??
I think this plant can grow anywhere, this plant is also able to adapt.

621
WOW!

I hope you really enjoy the fruits!
