I just got a 4 foot African Breadfruit (Treculia africana) and I know Oscar said he also has one. I was wondering what kind of cold tolerance this tree has, also how long it takes to flower and fruit. Supposedly it grows in Angola and other parts of sub-tropical Africa and at an altitude up to 1300 meters.
Thanks,
Mark

Interesting plant, would love to see pictures of the seedling trees. BTW, you know any source for seeds?

No i've never had that. But would love to have one. I remember seeing a tree of African breadfruit at F&S park, but don't know if it survived all the hurricanes?

I seem to remember Sadhu has it; it grows well here in Uganda at above 1500 m.

Here are a couple of photos of the young tree. Unfortunately I don't have any seeds available.

The African Breadfruit I got a few years ago is in a 15 gallon and 12 feet tall, and flowered and set fruit two times. However, this latest one was knocked off while moving a 12 foot Annona Montana out of the greenhouse. You can see all of the pollen on my fingers from the fruit.

Hey Mark, since you mentioned in original post about cold harness how cold has your tree taken ?
Bummer about fruit falling off!

It probably got down to the high 30's, it was in my green house, but the polycarbonate roof gave out in the summer and there was no protection. I think I will plant it where I have coffee and some garcinias. the fruit has only got to ping pong ball size.

They are a big fruit.I stumbled across this 40 pounder today and compare it to the size 11 Japanese riding boot.
