Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Can I graft citrus now in south florida

Do they really ban grafting citrus trees? Sounds unreal to me.
And yes, technically you can use cleft grafting whole year.

First rule to safe mental health - do not try to find logic in decrees. And since we become a member of European Union, situation is worse and worse day by day, in case of restrictions.

As it was mentioned somewhere on this forum before, irradiation by gamma-rays is common practice in breeding of news fruit or vegetable  to trigger mutations since 50´ .
For example some citruses:
"Star Ruby" - seeds from "Hudson Red" grapefruit seedling irradiated at the Texas A & I Citrus Center, Weslaco, in 1959.
"Murcott seedless" -obtained by bud irradiation from the self-compatible not parthenocarpic ‘Murcott’ mandarin.
Seedless strains of "Foster" grapefruit through y-irradiation of buds etc.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / artocarpus mariannensis - Dugdug
« on: December 17, 2013, 04:28:06 AM »
Does anyone grow artocarpus mariannensis from this source?
http://summerhibiscus.net/nutornamentalshadepalm/artocarpus-marianensis-seeded-breadfruit-nut-tree/
I have a nice plant from those seeds, but it has 3 pairs of lobes on some leaves instead of max. 2 pairs, like it is in artocarpus mariannensis leaf description, so most likely I have a hybrid.

Durian Lover, I have to support your statement - both parts.
And yes, my cousin is married with one Dutchman and when it comes to average height,  Holland is the number one in Europe most likely - maybe, because they do not have hills, so  they have to be so tall to have a proper view for long distance  ;D

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Grafted Mangostee
« on: December 17, 2013, 04:06:34 AM »
I read somewhere on the web, that budwood from mature mangosteen grafted on mangosteen seedling will not speed up flowering, like it works on another plants. Is it true?
And second question, I have some mangosteen seedlings, but they do not go well in my indoor conditions, but I have one garcinia laterifolia plant, which grows nice - can I graft garcinia mangostana budwood on garcinia laterifolia to save it?

Yesterday, I ate the red fleshed pitahaya for the first time, I got the fruit from Indonesia, but I have to say, that it was the same experience like with the white fleshed one, both taste to me more like vegetable than fruit, something like radish, really  not worth to grow as a fruit. But may be it is because of me, who grow up in Middle Europe,  eating  tens of different varieties of plum, apple, apricot, peaches, pear  etc.  :D

If it is subtropical, could be a good rootstock for more tropical artocarpus varieties, because they do not like my greenhouse conditions. I would like to buy some seeds to test it.

Yes it is possible, the text of confirmation email was partly in slovak language and it says: "Prosím potvrďte objednávku predplatného" - literally it means some kind of paid newsletter.
But possibly it is just wrong automatic translation.

I do not see any "I want seeds!" box. Just box "subscirbe" some newsletter.

Directly underneath the “enter your email” bit of the “subscribe,” in bold letters there are the words “seed savers,” with a checkbox labled “I want to know when you are sharing seeds.” Subscribe and check this box, or if you are already subscribed, go to preferences.

Yes, I saw all of this, but email text spoke something, like that newsletter is some kind of paid service or what, so this is why I stopped to proceed the subscribe process.

Top-working on citrus tree is a common practice.
If you graft different variety on different branches, you will get so called cocktail tree.
