Now that I think about it, it may be Ziziphus Joazeiro as someone once gave me a seedling of it. So, not too far off with the Chinese Jujube!

Thanks,
Jaime

Hi Jaime,
Juá is a great plant to have in the subtropics 8) I checked out Helton Josué's website to read more about this plant. The tree takes two to four year to produce and the fruits have a strong sweat flavour, with a hint of peanut/orange...sound's yummy ;D

What's really amazing is that the plant is cold hardy till -4ºc/24.8ºf  8) seeds can also remain viable up to a year 8)

This is an unidentified Artocarpus at the Fruit & Spice Park. Can anyone lend their expertise for identification?

I wonder if this one will ripen. It seems too green to be ready, but then again I have very little experience with Artocarpus varieties.

Hi,

Can anyone ID this fruit? It's about 2-3 inches long , very seedy, and with a bland flavor.

thanks,
Jaime

Artocarpus lakoocha?

-Ethan
If I remember correctly, Chris from the F&S park mentioned that it was NOT Lakoocha since he has that one at the park. definitely similar, though.

I took a look at safu online and it has one big seed, while this fruit, which has confusingly been called fingerlime, has many flat, dark seeds.

It looks a bit different from the wild Meiogyne cylindrocarpa around here but the 'fingersops' from north of here could look like that.A few of us spoke about this species in a thread a few days ago.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

What did the plant look like it came off of?

Looks like a casabanana.  Does it grow on a vine?

Does look like lakoocha. But the lakoocha doesn't usually have so many lobes on the fruits. Rigidus is not lobed at all Ethan. It looks like a small marang. I don't have rigidus but saw photos on google. Do have lakoocha.

Must be a fingersop. The casabananas have large seeds and are huge, not 2-3 inches. Where did you get this fruit Jaime? My guess is it came from tree at F&S park?

Just looks like a lakoocha to me and not as lobed as many of the best varieties.

It was a sample fruit at one of the club meetings at the F&S Park. Chris gave a presentation and couldn't quite come up with a name for it other than saying that some people call it fingerlime, name which he didn't like since there is another fruit known by that name.

I did not see the plant it came from so I cannot hazard a guess. Thought it was an interesting looking fruit, yet very bland tasting.

Hi Jaime, i don't think fingerlime is an actual name anywhere for that fruit. It was an error made in the CRFG article by Maurice Kong that called it by that name confusing it for the citrus by that name. Apparently there is no common english name in Australia where the fruit was collected by Maurice Kong. It is a type of annona, Meiogyne cylindrocarpa . There was another thread about this fruit with lots of photos.

You are right Oscar, that is what I get for just browsing pictures and not reading what the picture on google is titled.  I still think it is lakoocha, maybe just seedling or climactic influence?

here are some pics of various artocarpus.
http://www.asianplant.net/

hmmmm, it wont let me link directly to it so go into it by species and look under moraceae, it list quite a few with pics.

9/10 it is lakoocha. Don't think they have any artocarpus much rarer than that at F&S park.
