Hi guys
Most of us here are familiar with the more famous Garcinias such as G. Mangostana, Lucs Garcinia, G. Humilis, G Dulcis, Russels' Sweet etc.
What are some of the lesser known high quality Garcinias that are sweet enough to eat out of hand without needing Miracle Berries? :o
Any Garcinia Gurus out there?

How's the cold tolerance with Garcinia Prainiana? I'm guessing it can stand slightly colder temps than G. Mangostana.

I have seeds, you can PM me.

Also Sweet madrono, G. macrophylla, G. portoricensis (puerto rican mangosteen), jorco/jocomico (different from intermedia/lemon drop), G. magnifolia, G. acuminata (charichuelo), G. aristata (cuban mangosteen), G. gardneriana, Madrono de monte and other unnamed american garcinia species.

Nice list! How would you describe the Cuban and Puerto Rican Mangosteens? and the Jorco/jocomico? I've never heard of them :D

Cuban mangosteen not even a hint of sour - sort of bland and slightly sweet. I have not personally tasted portoricensis (also called palo de cruz) but from what i have heard from those few who have it's similar to the Cuban mangosteen but sweeter and more complex. Nearly extinct and I am sure Hurricane Maria did not help. I have a few growing but haven't fruited yet.
Jorco/jocomico also nearly extinct but there are efforts in Costa Rica to propagate and make them available there. I believe Oscar has this species growing and I have a number of seedlings. Sadhu had made them available although I am not sure if he was able to save it or not thru the hurricane. Supposed to be tasty, orange/reddish, and was thought to be G. Intermedia but definitely is not.

What about g. forbessii?
Jorco is a generic term in Costa Rica used for any yellow garcinia. They will call the Achacharu 'jorco lisa', (smooth) and the the madruno a 'rough' jorco.

Yep, called jorco and/or jocomico - these are general common names for garcinia species. G. intermedia is also referred to as jocomico.
Was specifically speaking of this species though

Never tasted Kandis (g. forbesii) but heard they were sweet/tart and very small seeds.
