19% brix for Anomaly  :D  Notice fruit still has green coloration, even when it's perfectly ripe!  this one fell of the tree.

Congrats on this!

Any thoughts as to how much growth would speed up if it wasn’t allowed to fruit for a year or so?

thanks Coach,

well, as a grafted tree the growth rate seems to increase by 25-30% or more...the grafted trees grow without fruiting for several years after you graft them...but as seedling tree, they grow very slow, even if not fruiting...they just lack vigor....maybe 1ft per year or less.

Plinia sp. “Anomaly”, Jabuticaba fruiting abundantly, approx 7y old, now flowering/fruiting nonstop for about 4y...still less than 3ft tall, with one inch caliper trunk, in 5gal pot. Grafted trees are available only on ebay, please search “Plinia Anomaly “ to find the current listing. I’m the only one selling them, because i selected the variety, and just released it

please check the ebay link before the auction ends!!

about 35F, but humidity has to be high for fruit not to drop.

and kill temp is assumed to be around 23-26F depending on duration, and other conditions.

I have noticed that many fruit species can have precocious individuals that fruit at a much smaller size. Could it be either a Red Hybrid or Red which are known to fruit at small sizes? This could just be a bit smaller than usual. If we forget that they are nearly all hybrids anyway that would make it a M. cauliflora. I have a feeling that most dwarfs are a form of aureana or cauliflora.

couldnt disagree more...but i see how you might say that, being you're on the other side of the planet, and have never grown this variety, or seen it in person...

if it's just a red seedling that precocious, why does it behave differently in terms of heat resistance?  why do all the seedlings that arise from the mother tree have foliage that is easily discernible from the red?

I was referring to the precious 'dwarf' forms of M.cauliflora, precoe or hibrida and very similar more red fruited form red jaboticaba as identified by Lorenzi in the Brazilian Fruits book. By contrast the Scaret or escarlette is not in the book and physically appears to be much more similar to M.areana and seems likely to be a areana hybrid.
Adam I am in the right hemisphere at least and was speculating on what it could be. This species is highly plastic and contains varieties paulista and pnhema and not all have the depressed central vein. If it is a hybrid there may be a chance one of the M.cauliflora varieties is a parent.
