In Goa, on the west coast of India they use   Tefal or Triphal  ( Zanthoxlum Simulans ?) in making of  mackeral fish curry. This pepper is not hot but has a lemony aroma. It is used to impart a tingling sensation to the bucal mucosa as you consume the curry. Wonder if Sechuan pepper has the same function. I have a young  Triphal tree in my garden. The bark and leaves are spiny.

Yes, it appears to be the same.

From the recopies I found, the fish appears to be what we call 'Scad'. I imagine the taste is quite good.

Scad is horse mackerel.Japanese like it and me also here.
Taste not as fishy as the mackerel and its a smaller fish .Biggest i ate were half the size of a mackerel but normally what i catch its 6-8 inch long.

Literature says you need a male and female, but in my past experiences, a single plant has always produce berries on it's own after a while and they were fertile as well. Mine came from seeds brought from SE Asia by family and the plant was hardy to at least 9b, but could possibly be a bit colder to???

Szechuan pepper (Zanthoxylum simulans) is self fertile. One plant is enough to produce the spice. Other species - Z. piperitum, Z. coreanum and others are dioecious so you need female and male plant to produce seeds.

Be advised: Every time I go to OneGreenWorld's website my computer is attacked by a risk that my antivirus software says is "high", but was blocked. So...

Just a friendly FYI. Their site must not be very secure so it might be best to do transactions over the phone if you do. It's a shame bc I really liked some of what they had :/
