Has Erdon Lee landed in US yet?
« on: August 22, 2020, 11:50:56 PM »
Some time ago I joked about the US not being ready for Erdon Lee and that it had not gone through it's Fai zee sui phase yet. An out of sequence fruit may disrupt the 'continuum'. I am wondering if it has actually been secured in Florida, California or Hawaii yet? I am getting a grafted Erdon Lee and Seedless soon and they are being marcotted as we speak. Here are a few fruit of Erdon Lee from 2 seasons ago as a reminder.

I should have said my 2 trees are being marcotted not grated as we write. They are good alright and command the highest price in the market. Very juicy and well flavoured.

How much is that?
Can I buy some scions off your trees?

People here paying $400 for a 2” trunk AP.

Sounds like they have arrived over then and will no doubt get cheaper. The seedless is the next on the hit list of desirable lychees.

I would love to get my hands on one but as far as I am aware, they have not reached California yet.

I need to get some of these.
Does it require a lot of cold stimulus to fruit?
SE florida didn't get much cold these days so hopefully it a more "tropical" friendly one

This lychee commands a premium price usually about $15 per kg or $7 per lb

Some durian and mangosteen growers have erdon lee lychees fruiting so southern Florida should have an abundance of chill hours necessary. If your coolest mornings are below 50f that should be good enough and 38f to 45f would probably be in the best range to stimulate flowering.

Great info.
Now I just need to get my hands on some Budwood. A Marcott would be better but that would be harder to bring in.

Does anyone know if it has reached India yet? I am out fruit hunting summer next year, besides mangoes and superior variety Jamun, i will be looking for lychee varieties there.

I have plenty of contacts in India who will want this when they find out I have it and when their postal service is up and running again
