Post by: Capt Ram on August 09, 2017, 01:22:44 PM
My yellow Passion Fruit explosive growth..but has very little fruit
I have 2 vines planted 2 years old..10 feet apart and the vines are about 75 feet long and 10 feet wide, thay were loaded with flowers which I hand polanated every evening for about 6 weeks, yet only a handful of fruit
Any ideas what's wrong..

Are there pollen left when you pollinate? I heard the honeybees rob the pollen without pollinating the flowers in the process. So by noon, it should be too late for hand pollination.

Fruit production on my yellow edulis varied greatly over the 5 years that it was in the ground.  I did get somewhat better results by hand-pollinating, but not enough to justify the effort.  This year I removed the plant because fruit production fell to practically nothing.  I may re-plant from seedlings or from cuttings, but I'm considering just replacing it with something else - a nitida, laurifolia or maliformis maybe.  Fruit quality was good, but it's not my favorite fruit by a long shot.  Still have Possum Purple.  It has smaller fruit, but it's much more productive and slightly sweeter.

Plant other varieties with it and potassium sulphate might help. Flavicarpas set fruit easily are the sweetest and tastiest of all passionfruit in my opinion and even feral vines I see in the bush are crazy productive. They only have a finite productive life however and some don't even last  years.

Loads of pollen, on the flowers I hand polanated about 20 a day for a month and onay got a handfull of fruit..
I wonder if I cut it way back if that would help..the base is as big around as your wrist..

Full disclosure.. I am no expert... but...

Maybe you could get more fruit set if you pollinated with another variety.
My Ruby Glows only set fruit with pollen from my Fredericks or Incarnatas.

Worth a try.
