Brian I have grown both the Chandler, and am still growing the Valentine.  I like the Valentine much better. I discarded the chandler two years back.

Definitely not citrus greening, but the tree is greatly deficient from being under fed, especially nitrogen.

Yourgos, interest statement about the Valentine Pummelo.  Going on 4 years ago I chopped out a Persian Lime and replaced it with a Valentine Pummelo. Valentine  = a wonderful tree, a wonderful fruit.

Some years back I had an area with very bad drainage.  I dug a hole 4 feet deep and 4 feet square.  Filled it with a drainable mixture and planted a lemon tree.  The tree never had any sort of problem.  The hole was deep enough and wide enough that even with SLOW drainage the tree has turned out great.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Cara Cara vs Tarocco ?

I believe it is the other way around, in that the Tarocco is inferior in taste to the Moro.  Moro Blood orange is loved the world over.

Because the super dwarf Red Clementine is so short and different, that is exactly why I kept it.   It is a one of a kind tree.  Anyone can grow the normal offspring, they are a dime a dozen..

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Citrus in the Pacific Northwest

The Ventura lemandarin  that was seen in the above U-Tube was propagated by a friend of mine.  He is actually a member on this forum under the name of Eyeckr.  If you see him on, you can ask him any questions.  He know a lot about cold hardy citrus.

I would pick a Cara Cara over Tarocco in a heart beat.

Ypurgos you asked ...."would applying biuret to this tree in January counter the alternate bearing tendency'

The answer is it would not completely counter the alternate bearing, but it would help.  The fertilizer goal for the heavy crop year with alternate bearing trees is to provide adequate fertilizer to support the developing crop, and to also support the summer vegetative shoot growth (normally in June) which become the blooming shoots for the following year (the off crop year). Therefore, be sure to also apply a low biuret urea foliar spray directly after the tree's early drop period.  (After a citrus tree blooms the tree will set many more small fruitlets than the tree can possibly supply enough energy to bring all of them to maturity, so it drops a great number of the new fruitlets, plus many of the flowers that never set -- this is called the Early Drop). Foliar spraying low biuret urea directly after the early drop should supply much of the energy to greatly help with fruit set during the off year.

Radoslav, I have 20 +- Red Clementine seedling from a fruit that I received from Laaz.  19 of the seedlings have presently grown to the same height (15 inches).  One of the seedlings is a REAL dwarf at a height of only 4 inches. All are the same age.

Dylan, the coloration of the Moro shown above has pretty good color for a California grown blood orange.

Yourgos, the low floral intensity of the return bloom after an on crop year in an alternate bearing tree is attributed to the low carbohydrate reserves in the tree after it has produced a heavy crop.  Similarly, after an off crop year, trees have a larger carbohydrate reserve that supports a large number of ilnflorescences and the stetting of an on crop.  Tree nitrogen status and reserves of other essential mineral nutrient follow the same patter, plus the hormones IAA, ABA & cytokines are also involved. Fruit thinning during the on crop year has shown a great potential for increasing both the size of fruit in the on crop year, and also increasing a greater fruit yield the following year.  As seen above, the nitrogen reserves and essential mineral nutrients are also depleted during the heavy on crop year  Applying  low biuret urea as a foliar spray would be helpful replenishing the nitrate reserve of the tree.  However, I still believe that  crop thinning should also be done.

There is a variety of wasp that is a predator of the leaf miner.

The citrus CTV (citrus tristeza virus)  disease that is wiping out the Sicilian Moro Blood orange industry is the same virus that wiped out the use of Sour Orange as a root stock in the USA and Brazil.  Luak your citrus trees look very good.  They survived the indoor winter months great.

As Yorgos wrote,  citrus leaf miners normally don't affect citrus  much until the second flush of new growth.

luak, not sure what the root stock is on my in ground Valentine pummelo.  I did not graft that tree, I purchased it.  I do know it is on a dwarfing rootstock.  I can't remember what nursery I purchased it from.  Maybe Four Winds, but not sure.

Darkman, it is GREAT seeing you on the forum again.  I looked for you at the Savannah citrus expo, and asked Hershell Boyd about you.  Really glad to see you here.
