Looking for pineapple tops in Central Florida
« on: October 10, 2013, 08:05:09 AM »
This is a shot in the dark but does anyone know of a good source for pineapple tops. I've checked local grocery store chains and 2 said they get their pineapples pre topped and cored. Ive also checked restuaunts within a few miles and did not have success.

I have several pineapple plants in the ground and they are doing great where they are so I plan to expand in a big way. Thanks.

Hey thanks! Throwing away pineapple tops is equivalent to pinicide.  (Shudders) pure evil.lol.

Luisport, kinda funny but I just started this thread: http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=7721.0

Val, I'm in CA but a vendor next to me at the farmers markets makes fruit cups and goes through a lot of pineapples.  Maybe try farmers markets or fruit stands that sell cut up fruit.

Thanks Sven.  I'll try that. I did pick up 9 tops this weekend but I'm still hunting for more. I liked your thread btw.

The same way Sven describes.  I pull off about a third of lower leaves then stick them in the ground 3-4 inches. I don't pot them, jjust right in the ground and forget about them.
