Large poncirus fruit!
« on: October 27, 2018, 06:48:45 PM »
These poncirus came from a neighbor down in the valley. He said the tree has been growing beside their trailer for 30 years.

How large are they? I can't tell from the picture.

The coin doesn't help because we don't know its size.
The best is a ruler with cm scale.

Anyway, if the plate has a "normal" size your poncirus don't look large.

We use neither USD nor Euro, that doesn't help much ;). I prefer Sylvain's suggestion.

They’re larger than the few that I got off my tree two years ago. The coin is a USA quarter. I was in a hurry last night to go on a road trip and didn’t take time to hunt down a ruler. Sorry for the lousy post. I was just excited about what I feel is the most impressive citrus I’ve seen growing outside unprotected here where even poncirus is mostly unknown. I just wanted to share with folks I thought might care. Thanks for the criticism. Here is one of two poncirus fruit I’ve been able to grow on top of this mountain in the past 6 years. I don’t get fruit most years due to late spring freezes.

I'd still like to know their diameter and I will check some fruit here for comparison. We see late spring freezes too but so far, the Poncirus have not been affected.

For me, a Poncirus fruit with a diameter of 5-6 cm is big.

I've made this photo recently, for comparison. The bigger fruit comes from a standard PT and is 5 cm in diameter. The smaller ones come from a Flying dragon plant and are 3-4 cm in diameter. I've also seen standard PT plants with such small fruits. So there are definitely differences in fruit size depending on the particular plant/cultivar.

No, the PT are regular size but the FD are small. My FD are only slightly smaller than the PT, 4.5 cm and 5 cm.
