Title: Eugenia involucrata varieties
Post by: joe_OC on October 10, 2020, 09:53:31 AM
Does anyone have both E. involucrata sp. ‘Nelita’ and ‘Ben’s Beaut’?

They both seem to be the large fruiting varieties.  Want to know if there is a difference between the two.

Yes they are different. The Nelita is a Eugenia calycina which some say is a subspecies of the involucrata and
some say is a seperate species?
I have 2 types of the calycina and 4 different types of the E involucrata.
In Florida the calycina seems happier. The involucrata are prone to die back.
My nelita will hopefully fruit next year for the first time. The other calycina I
have fruited the past 2 years and it's a winner
