I want to learn more about this species.
is anyone growing this?
I know it's a slow grower, and a bit tricky....probably like a regular miracle fruit, but more sensitive to cold, and high pH.
I've hardly seen any pics of the fruits online...and the only person Ive heard of with this plant was bill Whitman (maybe fairchild now?)
I don't think it fruited in Bills lifetime...and I wonder if his plants ever fruited later on?
I'd like to give this species a try.
if anyone has access to seeds, seedlings or scions let me know! (Jim West has seeds! I might order some if I can find this plant elsewhere)

I'd be interested in any further info you get on this species. Things I have heard so far are contradictory. Roy Danforth, in Congo Native Fruits, says that it has the "miracle fruit" effect but Jim says his do not. So is Roy mistaken or does Jim have some other Synsepalum (or does it vary in having this characteristic?, this seems unlikely).

I don't think it has any miraculin. there'd be lots of research on this species if there was.

Roy listed 4 species in that book (by description, most not by Latin names). He stated all of these except gbamunga have the same property (miraculin) as the miracle fruit (S. dulciferum). Don't know if it is accurate but that's what he wrote. The "village munga", S. subcordatum, is one of these that supposedly has it. Jim's subcordatum does not.

Adam, i recall that Sherry at Vivero Anones in PR was growing S. subcordatum. She has a website. Might be easier to get seeds from her?

what defines them, aside from large fruit? miracle fruit seem to be hugely dependent on environmental factors for fruit size. fruits can be small and massive from the same tree. I always wondered about these species, but no one has pointed me anywhere. are they in fact truly distinct species? or just a big fruit?

I have two seedlings growing from Jimīs seeds
I notice that they have tiny hairs on the leaves that are easy to remove by touching but only "hairs" from the upper side..

this is the first time I've got a good look at the leaves...now I really want to grow this one even more.
how many seeds did you plant? how was germination success rate?
I hope you get them to fruit!!

thank you I wish I get them to fruit too :) but I have no idea how long it can take to fruit, anyone have this info? or if it is similar to miracle fruit in manners of fruiting?
The germination rate was 100 percent in my case, I let them germinated in bag and wraped in paper towel ..
but I lost some of them due to my stupidity :/ However I still hope they will resprout as the roots looks alive.

I will see roy Danforth in September when he is coming home.his farm is about 15 km from me. I will ask himto reply on the forum.i also got his book 100 tropical fruits.............home garden.
