Looking for Honey Kiss tree

My in ground Glenn and NDM trees are holding fruit now....it hasn't rained a lot in the past 30 days or so and its starting to get hot.  I dug down about 4 inches into the soil and could barely get the soil to clump together and it fell apart pretty easily.  Should I water the trees now or are they established enough to not need any now even though they are fruiting.  The trees are about 4 years old in the ground

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Spraying copper--how long before rain falls
« on: February 24, 2015, 05:45:29 PM »
My Glenn is pushing pannicles, flowers not open.  i wanted to spray and see that the rest of the week is forecast to be wet.  The question is if I spray copper does it have to be dry for 24 hours like it says on the label to be effective?  I was thinking i have a 12 hour window between spraying and when the rain will start.  Will that work?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Cold weather preparations
« on: February 12, 2015, 09:37:40 PM »
With many consecutive days of cold temps now I am covering my mango trees.  Does anyone know how many days it is ok to keep the trees covered.  Right now i keep the trees covered for 2 straight days then uncover.  Can you go 3 consecutive days of keeping the trees covered without harming the trees?

To all the experts out there:  the temp dropped to 36 last night, was below 40 for about 3 hours.  I failed to cover my mango trees last night that are full of flowers and bb size fruitlets.  Are the flowers and fruitlets goners?  Or will they survive and grow into beautiful fruit?

For potted mangos is there anything you can add to the soil to make the tree produce more or better fruit?  You can't add any sort of fertilizer (Potassium??) can you?  I need to clarify:  anything you can add while the tree is blooming? such as right now?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Whats wrong with my mango tree leaves?
« on: January 13, 2015, 10:36:10 AM »
Hello All, i've been noticing that the leaves of my Glenn mango tree are turning yellow and brown and dying/falling off.  Im thinking this is an iron and/or potassium deficiency.  Am I correct and if not what is going on?  Thanks for your input

I have an approximately 4 year old NDM in the ground and is bursting with pannicles.  Last year some fruits formed but fell off the tree after getting the size of about a golf ball.  The year before that they split when they were small.  I live in a neighborhood where they cleared out a forest, layed probably cheap dirt and i actually think i ran into some clay type soil when digging to plant the tree.  I went out and bought some Gypsum and wonder if the experts out there recommend i lay some down, how much, and when.  I really want the NDM fruit to hold this year.  Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Why are these mangos being aborted?
« on: May 23, 2014, 04:58:32 PM »
I've had a bunch of these about 2" long NDM mangos fall or easily pinch off the tree.  I cut one open and it looks like the seed is way smaller than it should be.  Can anyone tell me why this is happening and if anything is deficient.  The tree has been in the ground for 3 or 4 years now and it just put on a HUGE  vegetative flush

I also have not been watering the tree until yesterday as the heat has come on in the past week and its been a week since we had a 1" rainfall
And i just went out and noticed there is a clear to opaque fluid coming from the connection at the pannicle and fruit and the mango easily twisted off.  What is going on?

I know its been beat like a dead horse but i joined the forum so i could get premium advice from fruit lovers so i can have good yields of my favorite fruit the mango.  I have not fertilized my NDM since last October.  It is now flowering.  Is it a good idea to put some 8-3-9 on it NOW before the fruit is set?  Or will i do more harm than good?  Again, i have fertilized since last October.  OR should i just put some 0-0-60 on now?  Thanks !!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Huge Selection at Lukas Nursery
« on: March 22, 2014, 08:41:33 PM »
I went to Lukas Nursery in Oviedo Florida and was surprised at the HUGE selection of Mango and Avocado trees they had.  And the trees look very healthy for the most part.  I believe they get their trees from Hopkins Nursery and PIN.  They had Carrie, Keitt, Tommy Adkins, Cogshall, Glenn, Kent, Edward, Julie, Nam  Doc Mai that i can remember...And Lila, Lula, Brogdon, Poncho, Hall, Choquette, Brazos Belle, Mexicola, Winter Mexican, Fantastic, Joey

Im thinking about going back next week and getting an avocado tree.  Of the above, which is recommended and the best for Central Florida?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / potting up my pickering
« on: February 14, 2014, 11:13:58 PM »
I have a 3 gallon Pickering from PIN that i got in October.  It is blooming like crazy now but i will cut them off soon so the tree can get stronger.  I plan on putting the Pickering in a 7 gal container here soon.  However, i am now thinking that i will make a few cuts to the tree below where the bloom spikes are right now.  This will make the tree even smaller than when i got it.  Should I keep it in the 3 gal container for now?  Will the tree concentrate on putting out new growth vs growing more roots?  Thanks for the help
