Guess why I am so happy today...
« on: May 11, 2014, 11:26:27 AM »
Our mangosteen has finally thrown flower buds!   Tree is  6.5 years in the ground and probably was about 3 years old when I got it.  This happy event  has been a long time coming!  I counted about 7 buds this morning...hoping for more but don't want to seem ungrateful!

Nice. How many trees do you have in the ground? Might be a new destination for the PR trip in a few years....

Ha!  We would all starve! I have lots of other trees, but only a couple of each type, not like the fields of fruit on the west side!
I have 5 mangosteens planted right now.  The only hopes for another one to fruit in a few years might be the grafted one.
6 Pulasan planted- only 1 fruiting, though 4 of the other trees are old enough.
The rambutan are easy - grafted trees fruit in like 2 years, so I have 5 trees in flower now.

Congratulations on early flowering. Here's something for you to look forward to: i also have 5 mangosteen trees planted at my house. You might like to know that on first heavy fruiting this year i've gotten over 100 pounds of mangosteen fruit, and there are still more on the trees!
