Thanks Future, I've got some small fruit hanging and I'm trying to grow as many Polyembryonic seeds as I can get my hands on.

Anyone else notice the Venus fruitlets have deep lines or wrinkles that encircles the whole fruit towards the stem end of the fruit? It's about a quarter the way down from where it attaches to the stem. It could be caused by the climate here in SoCal or because it's on Turpentine rootstock with Lemon Zest as an interstock?

My Venus fruitlets did not have that ring on them as in your picture.

Thanks for the info TnTrobbie, almost all my Venus fruit has it. I just plucked off a small yellow fruit that was going to fall off anyways and it smells a bit like the resinous leaves off my Sweet Tart tree but less spicy. Here's some more pics of the fruit.

Do mangos get thrip damage? Looks like what they do to my nectarines....

I have seen some thrip damage on my Asian pears but haven't noticed anything on my mangos. Those lines encircling my Venus fruit were there from the beginning. I think they might fill in as the fruit enlarges. I'll keep everyone updated. My DOT and Lemon Zest fruits on the same tree don't have these lines.

My Venus has gigantic leaves.  Like nothing I've ever seen on a mango tree.  I will try to post some pics later.

Mine too. It was in a shaded spot for a bit with the previous owner, and the new growth after about a month or so in ground here is similarly large.

This cultivar, while quite anthracnose resistant, is very susceptible to MBBS and the rots.

I had my first and only fruit this year off my tree on 07/01/17, in the ground 2 years. This fruit is a keeper as I bought it because of the reviews, and it does not disappoint based on that single fruit, juvenile tree "and my growing conditions"(Harry H.).

Hi Harry, thanks for your review, I also have a small 1 year old Venus in the ground, you mentioned just tried your Venus yesterday, isn't supposed to be a late mango? Kind of late August /early September?

I am not the famous HMH, just a distant neighbor. He has his jackfruit sign outside but no mangoes on his stand when I drive by. ?
"and in my growing conditions" was one of his disclaimers.
I will drive by a little slower and see if there is any activity in the grove.

Raul, the mango tree might of gave it up early due to its young age.

Dont think you will see him at the property...

If it was from a very early bloom, thag could explain the early season readiness.  Being a young/juvenile tree could also be a contributing factor.

I made this picture just half an hour ago, in Spain. 14" long. Leaf comes from a tree growing in a nursery, I don't know the variety, but I doubt is Venus (unfortunately)  ::).

How are others fairing with the bacterial black spot on Venus?

I had picked a ripe Venus off of my tree last week. Granted it's in a 50gal pot (got in from Patrick in 2013-14 as a 7 gal), the fruit displayed uneven ripening (base ripe and the top half green) and what appears to be jelly seed. The seed was also split as if the seed was sprouting. Cutting it and tasting the ripe flesh reminded me of Cushman.  Two more left on the tree.

Zinc is a rock star. Weird that we didn't really hear much about zinc and his progeny until just recently.

I just grafted Zinc onto a Lemon Zest but a person that has been doing this mango thing, etc. for a lonnnnnnng time said he's tried zinc fruit 3 times and finds it chalky....doesn't like it.

If picked too early or not truly ripe, it can be chalke (same goes for Sweet Tart and Vrnus).  If picked and ripened fully, an outstanding mango.  It can also have an early harvest and later harvest, with the later fruit usually being better.

Is Venus a large or small mango? I had a medium sized fruit that was stolen when it was a little larger than a baseball and now I'm just left with this one fruit.

That doesn't appear to be a Venus.

I think I got the scions from you, lol! Sometimes our fruit grown here in SoCal are different shape or color compared to when grown in Florida. From my recollection, the sap of the leaves are reminiscent of Sweet Tart. I'll update on the taste if nobody steals this fruit.

And LZ can be chalky too...thankfully to those who also enjoy them that way.  I've never had the pleasure of a chalky Zinc.
