my wife sent me yesterday a photo of one orange from the island of Hvar.

You have a PM. Very nice, congratulations! ;D

That grapefruit looks amazing, I am jealous.
My moro has produced fruit that was excellent, but I haven't gotten fruit from my tarocco or sanguinelli yet. I'm looking forward to trying them.
[Edit - orange tree I mean. Mixed up the two pictures]
-
adriano2, that orange tree on Hvar has as full a crop of fruit as I have ever seen. What a great tree. - Millet
-
Can i have an advice please? I want to buy one blood orange. What's the best one? The Tarocco or Moro? I already have a sanguinello tree... Thank you! ;D
-
In the US, Moro blood oranges are often available in bags distributed by Sunkist. Most of the ones I've had were fantastic. I'm not sure where you could get them in Portugal, though.
-
I would agree, that Moro is the best of the blood oranges. - Millet
-
Moro that is available in Europe is too acid for me, while I consider Tarocco as a best orange that I tasted up to now. Excellent balance of sugar/acid and strong perfume of blood oranges.

Thank's a lot! :)

Luis, you are talking about the grapefruit, right?
Well, at least here in Brasil, exists a blood orange known as mombuca (Citrus Sinensis var. Mombuca if my memory serves) which donīt have the laxative effect of grapefruits, nor that perceptible bitter flavor. Mombuca is smaller, but has to much juice and is delicious, and it is my preferred. ;)
-
Oh yes, me too, Moro is my favorite as well - by a long shot. they are more tart but have excellent flavor and color, make perfect juice. They produce more fruit and it a is all around a better stronger tree. Tarocco has always been too sweet for me, lacking in acid. Interesting thing about my Moros is they are still outside. When they are larger, they have no problem with upper 20's (min is probably 26-28F) they color up extremely well when exposed to cold temperatures. Ill take them in when temps start going below 25F. Also, no leaf loss at all.

Hi Cassio! No, it's not grapefruit, it's moro blood orange. It's different.

In my humble opinion Tarocco is the best. But i have a sweet tooth. Also keep in mind that Moro con develop an unpleasant note if overripe. Earliness of Moro can be an advantage if you plan to grow it in a plce where citrus can't hold on the tree all winter long.
Adriano, congratulation on your plants. They seem pretty young and I bet your havest will gett better and better on next years. I'm so envious! My place is just borderline for oranges and i haven't been able to set up my plants yet. Maybe next year, if my grafts on FD finally take...
