Pickering or Fairchild mango?..... :)

I have both.  My Fairchild is planted where people might take them, but they don't because it is a green small fruit that gets yellow when ripe. I like the fruits. They have high seed to flesh ratio
My peripatetic Pickering put out 6 fruits this year which is very good given its size. Pickering fruits are larger, look nicer with some red coloration. This year I will get my first taste, I am sure it will be good going by what others have said here

Pickering is a slow compact grower that puts resources into fruiting. At this moment I have gotten a few Fairchild fruits while most are still hanging. Zero Pickering are ripe yet. Both are good choices but since I like smaller fruits I would go with Fairchild. You could get both and plant Fairchild in your front yard where I doubt people would steal too many. If you are ordering from Pine Island, I hear the shipping is (virtually) the same whether you buy one, two or three trees

That's a tough call .. Both are really nice mango's.  The Pickering will be smaller and slower growing, yet have larger fruit.  Both fruit are very good, and quite different.  It's a matter of personal opinion as to which one is better in regards to taste.

I have not had any Pickering yet this season, so it is difficult for me to choose one over the other in regards to flavor ...

If you were in Florida, I would lean towards Pickering.  But in California, it might be tough for the tree to put on size..

The trees you mention are both must haves from my perspective if you have the space.  If not, might I suggest getting the Fairchild and top working a branch to add Pickering on to it.

I debated the same question a year ago and chose Pickering for size, precocity, disease resistance and fruit quality. It's almost a toss up between the two. If one variety is easily obtainable then I would go with it.

heard someone snached up 200 Pickering mangoes from Zill, 3 gal.

But just hear say...wonder if to resell, or grow in pots like me, for fruit.  it would be nice to have an indoor grove...the closest thing I've seen would be Colorfield Farms, in FL...they have a bunch of huge mangoes in pots of all sizes producing fruit quite well.

I decided to order the pickering through POG and he sent me a picture of the tree I will be receiving. The tree is 5-6 feet tall. :)

I am still thinking of getting the Fairchild, Just got to find a location to plant it. I am thinking of planting the pickering in a 20gal pot and put the Fairchild on the ground. Here is the picture of the Fairchild Mango, also a nice looking tree..

Isn't the Pickering a dwarf? The Fairchild is a regular sized tree. Seems like two very different planting options. BTW Fairchild is good here because of good resistance to anthracnose and they seem to bear late, so off season. Just picked a couple of early Fairchilds today.

ANT21, nice to see another socal guy getting more mango trees.  They both sound like good choices.  Have you considered a Cogshall?  Another smallish tree with good fruit.
