Does this prepared mango scion look ready for grafting?
« on: June 10, 2019, 08:05:15 PM »
Hello Members,

I prepared this sweet tart scion 6 days ago , the stems turned yellow and fell off , does it look ready or should I let it plump up a few more days?

Thanks Ed

If you are not in a hurry, I would give it a few more days.
If you are, its likely good enough on 6 days but I like to wait longer;  just keep an eye on it and watch for the bud to swell.

After talking to an expert grafter, I learned that an ideal scion is one thats still green and has leaf nodes. What really matters is a good graft union and if the rootstock has sap flowing. If both of those are good, doesn't matter if the buds are swollen. The only difference is you dont get the flush of new growth as early.
