Now I'm uncertain if I like petch pak chong, or Nuathong, the most...I think the labels could have got swapped...or this ebay seller has the wrong pics.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Annona-Petch-Pakchong-Giant-Fruit-Annona-x-hybrid-1-Plant-Huge-size-/280859524749?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4164883e8d

My Nuathong looks identical to this petch pak chong fruit...and my petch pak chong looks nothing like this fruit on ebay! ??

Has anyone eaten or fruited these before to know the difference? or help me discern?

I don't know. But did you see the thread about Maha Chanok? This same vendor mislabeled that mango and in fact it was a Nam Doc Mai that he sent. So why trust him with the annona labeling?

thanks Sheehan!!!

which is Nuathong though?!

the bigger one in the middle?!

I think the two listed as petch Pak chong and Nuathong look similar to mine at home!  maybe the eBay seller is mistaken!

If you read the English abstract it describes the Nuathong as being the smallest fruit, having the lowest weight and having the smallest leaf, so I think it is the one on the right and the one in the middle is the Phet Pakchong.

What more do we know about these two atemoyas?  Most importantly, HAS ANYONE EVER TASTED THEM?  How big do the trees get?  What are their pollination requirements?

Excalibur has had them both for a few years. I was told that they are a cross with a sugar apple and an atemoya. I've tried the fruit but I can't remember anything specific about the fruit since its been a while.
What do you mean by pollination requirements?

I have had the Petch Pakchong and thought very highly of it.  I thought it gave Gefner a run for its money in overall eating quality.

I meant, do they require hand pollination?

I have seen them set fruit without hand pollination but I think Jeff has a tree that is a few years old and it has never set fruit.

Look at that nice big red one! I have got to find that in Thailand.  8) Would that be a reticulata?

The thai word for annona is น้อยหน่า , here you can see the google lookup:  http://www.google.nl/search?q=%E0%B8%99%E0%B9%89%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%AB%E0%B8%99%E0%B9%88%E0%B8%B2&safe=off&hl=nl&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=4RScUbqqOory0gXC24CoCQ&ved=0CDEQsAQ&biw=1241&bih=550

BKK, the first one is A. squamosa. The second one looks like A. squamosa var. photoshopensis. I doubt very much there is a sugar apple out there with such a purple/violet colour. Same thing with blue plumerias thai people sell on ebay...

In the 1980's I worked with pollen from a 'Purple' Annona squamosa, as well as with the 'Red Sugar' and the 'Kampong Mauve' and the 'M-1' and 'M-2'.  All were very brightly colored, no photoshopping necessary.

Some are so good, you can't. If you can be made to believe in wookies (Star Wars) anything is possible.
